Firsthand accounts describe an intense beast with a potent aroma and bite. Proof that the elusive monster exists? Or proof that brewing with five distinct varieties of hops creates an unbelievable, relentlessly hopped India Pale Ale? One taste and youll know, Swamp Ape is for real. Very light haze on this gold beer. Little white head. Smooth softish palate, slightly syrupy. Sweet pale malt, creamy with mild caramel but its also slightly raw tasting. Strong piney hops with a trace of citrus. Smooth soft finish with mild bitter linger. A good beer undone by too much raw tasting pale malt.

Bottle in Miami. Clear amber color, medium-sized white head. Cardboard, sweet alcohol aroma in the nose. Medium-bodied, rich palate. Punch of alcohol, herbal bitterness, pine with long aftertaste. Grassy and grainy. This is quite heavy on booze.

Draught. Amber and bright with a big but loose head. Lightly citrusy aroma, mostly just some dull hops though. Earthy and a little bit ashy, again quite hoppy but not too bright. The malts are just slightly syrupy. The problem is that this beer is in many places in Miami the only IPA on tap and it is just far too big for that. They need a sessionable version.
