From notes. Enjoyed this at Mickey’s 30th birthday bash on November 05. 22 oz bottle. 2010 vintage. The pour is a thin and dirty light brown with a light tan head and no lace as it falls down. This thing is smoky as hell. Damn. There is a light roastiness to it, but the smoke and peat really just ruin it for me. The flavor is much of the same. Light earthy malt and a strong smokiness just control it. The peat is bitter and heavy. This is not enjoyable at all. The mouth feel is thin and slick with hardly any carbonation and a lingeringly smoke dominated finish. Ugh. Smoked beers are not my thing!

Not too bad for a smoked beer but lacks thenroastni would want from an imperial porter. OK beer overall.

On tap @ Flossmoor Station. Deep brown with a small head. Aroma of caramel, oak, vanilla and hints of fruit and smoke. Flavor of sweet dark fruit and caramel, roasted coffee and bit of tanic wood. Medium body with soft carbonation and a slightly thin mouth feel. Very nice beer, lots of barrel character and very drinkable.

A deep dark porter with a thin lacing brown head. In aroma, a smooth sweet chocolate, mocha coffee, vanilla, quite nice. In mouth, a sweet chocolate with maraschino cherries, lightly peaty, molasses, a bit of funky acidity. On tap at FoBAB 2011.

Draft at FoBAB 9. Didn’t even read the description until after. That Cherrywood malt is super phenolic. Pours black with a tan head. The nose is salty, Islay malt, chocolate and vanilla. Really odd. That malt is just strange. On tasting, the smoke is far from subdued and really punishes you with burly and abrasive phenols. Some astringency from the oak tannins as well. More cocoa and vanilla. Biggest beef is that the smoke seems poorly integrated. Weird.

Sampled on tap at FoBAB 2011 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich blackish hue, brownish bottom and edges with a frothy tannish light brown frothy head that laces well. Laces well. Aromas are silky and sweet, toffee and touches of toast, smoke, and cherrywood. Cocoa and coffee, caramel and roast. Sweeter overall. Initial strikes with cherrywood smoked malts, smokey and fruity, touches of cocoa, coffee, and roast. Gentle cherrywood grows, fruity and smokey with touches of bourbon, roast, cocoa, and toffee. Gentle heat, touches of oak, vanilla, more smoke and roast. Pretty enjoyable, smokey. Touches of barrel. I enjoyed this but am an admitted smokehead..

draft... dark brown, light tan head, great lacing, ok retention... really sweet porter, tons of vanilla, strong wood smells alcoholic, a little roast, too much oak for me, but solid... again really sweet, lots of vanilla, weird wood, super fresh an off quality you get out of cedar, the smoke is more ash than anything, just not a good combo
