On tap at the brewery. Deep orange-yellow with sudsy thin white head. Completely opaque. Looks like SPF 45, if I’m remembering correctly; looks unfiltered. First sip’s got a lot going on, and I like it. Full, with gliding sugars and a sugar-cane/brown-sugar kind of sweetness that lasts into the finish. Next to that there are dueling impressions that don’t really meld but kind of complement each other well: a slick, tangerine/banana-and-cream sweetness that is almost lactic, and a cardamom-like spiciness. Both are distinct and persist into the finish, without ever dominating each other. A little bit of the tangy almost-acidity that I’ve tasted in other "wheat wines" is more apparent on the second and third sip, and kind of sits on the back of the tongue. I like this one. Would be a good dessert beer with creme brulee, or maybe bread pudding.
On tap at the brewpub, pours a hazy yellow with a thick white head, the aroma is extremely sweet with some booze that tingles the nose, the flavor is WAY too sweet with a ton of candy sugar and a alcohol burn that comes through in the finish, I for sure couldn’t handle a full serving of this. Tap in a snifter. Hazy goldenrod pour with a bright white ring for a head. Fragrance and flavor resembles those orange circus peanut candies! Taste is definitely more complex, though. It’s initially sweet, then a wheat breadiness hits, and a banana sweetness follows. There’s a little bit of booze but I think that adds to the sophistication of this brew and reminds you that this isn’t a lollipop. Nice, oily mouthfeel that slightly numbs and coats the tongue. This poured a cloudy straw body with a short head yet left plenty of lace. It smelled of honeyed bread with some very light spicing. It struck me as being too light bodied for a barley wine. The flavor was bready, quite sweet, honey-ish, with traces of spices. A bit boozey. Okay. jlanning215 (363) - Peoria, Illinois, USA - NOV 8, 2011
A unique and great beer. This pours a brought yet hazy orange-yellow. White head. Hefe yeast straight off for the aroma along with sweet kiinda deep aromas of very ripe fruit. I love the use of hefe yeast in this gives in great character. This is on the sweeter side. Big body. Rich fruits and clove and the likes. Really enjoyed this. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 27, 2011
