Thanks fishingnet for the share. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is roast, malt, piney bitterness with some resin that smells a bit sticky. Flavor is similar with resiny pine hop bite and some toasty to the malt. Very interesting beer. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - APR 18, 2010
Bomber on bus trip for RBWG 2010. Pours a deep dark brownish black with a nice frothy head. Aroma is slightly oxidized charred malts, some chocolate and light roast with a grassy, citrusy hop character, light dankness, but some earthy spicy garlic as well. Flavor is columbus- garlic some stale dankness, earth, mineral, leather hints and a moderate bitter finish- hops seem way off on this one. Meh. 22 oz bottle. Very dark brown, barely clear along the edges. Quick fading head. Nose is grapefruit, orange, a touch of dark fruit and earthy coffee bean. Resiny medium body with a spicy buzz. Starts with caramel and quinine, increasingly bitter with grapefruit. Finishes with burnt sugar and ash. Kind of gritty. Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAR 16, 2010
Metallic black wax bomber. Pours a translucent, dark mahogany to cola brown color. A small, khaki colored swirl of froth sits at the head, forming a bubbly edge. Wet arches break apart into scattered spot lacing. The nose comes across quite hoppy, showing resinous pine, citrus, and hints of earth, all backed up by a base of black patent malt, dry cocoa, and a good deal of grainy roast. Flavor are similarly structured, again quite aggressively hopped with piny-earth bitterness and hinting at mixed citrus. Smooth, dry cocoa malt, along with a bit of blackened caramel, provide the counterpoint, though it remains well on the bitter side of balanced. Slightly more substantial than medium bodied, the palate comes across smooth and slightly dry, with moderate carbonation and a lingering, piny-roasty finish. As black IPAs go, this one is pretty nice. SrSilliGose (3331) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - NOV 8, 2009

On tap at Flossmoor Station. Pours a deep and dark brown, almost black body with a finger-width, tannish brown, creamy head that dissipates at a moderate pace and leaves a clinging lace. Aroma has lots of bright, citrusy lemon and orange pines with a light resin. Some roast comes in slightly, but this aroma seems to lean more towards the hops. A thin caramel sweetness makes its way in there too. The flavor is quite nice. The roasts really come out more at the end, but stay relatively subtle. Lots of pines up front and into the finish where the roasts join up nicely for a dry, moderately bitter, resiny aftertaste that lingers for a long duration. Smooth and medium body with a great balance. Nothing seems over-the-top in the least bit. Overall, a very tasty black IPA. This is really a style I hope to see more of. Lots of pines and blending roasts made this highly enjoyable. hellbilly (3247) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - DEC 27, 2009
UPDATED: FEB 21, 2010 another flossmoor from nbutler11 shared on 11/27/2009. this time it has black wax.
woody colored cola brown with an off white head and some light spots of lace.
in the nose... dirty, earthy spice hops are in the background while fresh leafy ones sting the sniffer. there are some grapefruit citrus notes, light pine and ashy smoke as well. neat.
what is tasted of sweetness is wiped out by leafy hoppy dryness. flavors of cola, pine, cocoa, light ash, peppery spice and grapefruit/citrus are noted before a dry bittered finish. pithy numbing...mmm.
the body is medium if not a little on the thin side but it is crisp and terribly easy to put away. 8/4/8/3/15/3.8

Thanks to Beerlando for the pour. Reddish black pour with a thick creamy head. Floral citrus hops, dark malt aroma. Chewy malt, resiny hop taste. Really good. Bockyhorsey (2627) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - DEC 8, 2009
Sample courtesy of nbuttler. An ipa with a black body new to me. Had a good IPA aroma and some grapefruit in the flavor. Thanks Nick Dfonorow (2250) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 14, 2011
Pour is translucent dark brown with a very small off-white head. Aroma is filled resin filled with notes of pine needles, burnt marshmallows, and flowers. Flavor and texture is extremely bitter with some roasted marshmallow and caramel undertones. Pine needles/floral finish.
