Red waxed bomber, brought out of the cellar to share with craft friends. Produced a welcome hiss upon cap removal. Poured to snifters, the color was a fairly clear, brownish mahogany, with a presentable layer of off white head foam that reduced to a bubbly ring, and spots & strands of lacing. The nose was herbal notes, spices as rubbed sage, rosemary, and anise, with currants, and some treacle sweetness. Medium bodied, with fair carbonation, the yeasts & microbes did their job, as the flavor developed dryness & tartness, almost as a moderate Sour. Alcohol was somewhat hidden and reserved. I liked the metamorphosis. Attended the 08 unveiling at the Station, and enjoyed a number of goblets from the tap, but never got around to a review. I do recall more pronounced spice notes as cardamom, clove, & mint, with orange zest, dried fruit, more honey & caramel sweetness, and a similar, hidden alcohol presence. Bottle: Poured a hazy deep burgundy color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry raisins with sweet honey notes and residual candi sugar is pleasant though quite sweet. Taste is also dominated by dry raisins with sweet honey notes with deep caramelized malt with residual sugar notes. Body is full with somewhat of an oily texture with medium to good carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. This is a big sweet beers which is enjoyable but would have probably benefited form additional attenuation. madvike (3271) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 20, 2012
Bottle shared by TPatuto...thanks Tom! - Pours murky brown with a thin light tan head. You can smell the cardamom on the nose, with sugar and dark bread. Taste is better than I would have guessed given the nose, with honey, cardamom, dark bread, yeast, and a citric finish. Nice carbonation fluffs up the body a bit. Not my thing, but less of a sugar bomb than I was expecting. AmEricanbrew (6878) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - AUG 9, 2012

Bottle shared at DLD. Overall, it was fine. Honestly just a little understated or muted. Not sure if the age had anything to do with it but it just seemed a little disjointed. Not bad, just not great.

A touch of oxidation, but otherwise we have herbal aspects, sweet raisins, dark fruits, and a touch of tartness. Nice flavor with a good cherry tartness followed by raisins and dark fruits. Tasty.
