On tap at the Great Taste of the Midwest (8/9/08): Pours a slightly hazy copper bronze with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruity hops and big whisky woody notes with some sweet caramel malts. Body starts with good oily fullness and sticky sweet complex caramel maltiness before a drier, semi-bittersweet finish. Perhaps a little too oaky, but still pretty good. jamvin23 (162) - chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 15, 2009
Draft. I was able to get some of this at the KK release. Aroma: bourbon, fruity with a slightness of vanilla. Flavor: bourbon, fruit and sweet mixinnixon2000 (226) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 12, 2009
Sample at the brewpub. This was the best of them all. looks like a shot of whiskey in the small glass. boozy flavor with a complex flavor of fruits and malts. small hint of citrus at the end. Cornfield (5569) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - FEB 9, 2009
I had this at the brewpub at the Kapowski mug club tapping/bottle release. I’m not sure how I’d missed this in the past. Nice pour into a snifter, a clear amber body with some lazy bubbling and a tall, firm white head. Nice boozey aroma blended with citrus smells and sweet malt scents. Smooth. In the flavor, the hop bitterness is pretty much gone but there’s plentry of citrusy hop flavor blended with the Bourbon, sweet malt, and a peppery spiciness. Very satisfying and warming sipper. Pours amber with a big head. The had actually was above the snifter and it took a lot of careful maneuvering to get back to my seat without losing some beer. Aroma is nice and bourbony. The flavor is bourbony too, but with the sweet, fruity, vanilla notes similar to wooden hell. Really excellent and not very boozy.

Served in snifter at brwpub. Pours dark orange with off-white head. Aroma is hops, citrus, bourbon, vanilla and booze. Flavor is dominated by bourbon and booze with citrus, hops, vanilla and some spices. This one is dominated by bourbon and booze with good amount of sweet malt. Thought it was a barley wine. The barrel really changed this brew but then again I only had the 6.5% hoppy little O. BeerBunker (966) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - JAN 12, 2009
Draft at Flossmoor. Pours dark orange with a foamy white head. Aroma is of malt, spice, citrus, bourbon, and caramel. Taste is of bourbon, citrus, yeast, spice, and malt. Has a strange underlying, rye taste. Bitter alcohol presence lingers with each sip. Has only the faintest taste of hops. Has a thick, sticky mouthfeel. Overly bitter due to the alcohol, but a very good beer. RAYBOY01 (2010) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 1, 2009
Very hazed bronze pour with an off-white head. The nose smells like the bourbon barrel...pretty domininating. The flavors are cloyingly sweet caramel and very moderated hop bite...grapefruit and oranges? The alcohol is really overbearing here, and the hops are surprisingly subdued. Good stuff. tjthresh (1872) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - DEC 12, 2008
FoBAB 08. Hazed amber with off white head. Nose is just a load of juicey hops with a touch of wood. Flavor has tons of juicey hops with a bit of Belgian yeast spice and an oak finish. Full body with oily mouthfeel. Good carbonation. Full dry finish with a resurging heat. User29624 (1687) - - NOV 27, 2008
FoBAB 2008. Pours a hazy orange with a thin head. Good bourbon aroma and flavor. Had a little bit of vanilla, some orange, and a little bit of the wood flavor. Solid.
