UPDATED: APR 26, 2004 Draft, re-rate, 4/24/04 I'm re-tasting this, since this is the house beer that Matt has tweaked the most as new brewmaster. Body has darkened, I think, to a garnet red color. Head in thin but a little rocky, leaving thin tan lacing. Taste has more hop bitterness than I remember. There's also a slight orange note in the roast malt, then some slight earthy and winy notes amongst a good caramel roast. A definite improvement.
Draft. Well, I find I don't have too much to say about this. A nice roasty quality and a decent enough taste, but it gets overwhelmed because the Nut Brown is the next item on the "sampler platter." This is actually the best session beer of the place, instead of the Zephyr. You'll likely have a much higher opinion if it's the only beer you have in one night.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours reddish with a off white head. Taste malty, Carmel, zesty/hoppy. I thought this was good. I would drink this again.

On tap at Global Brew. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown with a thin off white head. Mild spice aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt, buttery with fairly assertive hop bitterness for an amber ale. Good.

[Tap] Bright reddish brown pour. Not much head to it. Hoppy aroma with lighter caramel malts and mild fruits also making an appearance. Flavors include moderately bitter pine/citrus zest hop notes, toffee, caramel and dry grains. Sticky palate. Lingering dry and bitter finish is pleasant. A nice beer. Bottle thanks to dtjager! It’s a gusher, lots of foam and overflow immediately after opening the bottle! Dirty brown pour, lasting head and an aroma of spicy/hoppy caramel. Flavor is very creamy spicy malt, herbal hops and finished nice a bitter. Aside from the overcarbonation, this beer was pretty great! Plenty of flavor that you’d get from a great imperial red, without being too high in alcohol. Not sure what the bottles run, but I’d certainly buy it if priced right.
