nice dark copper color, off white head. grapefruit and hps in the nose. excellent bitter hop taste. i like this one. HopsOrDie (687) - New Lenox, Illinois, USA - SEP 14, 2005
Light orange pour with a good head that laces down the glass. Lots of grapefruit, citric hoppy aroma in this one. Flavor has some malt backbone, but is mostly dominated by a hop bitterness, but I suppose it is supposed to do that being a double ipa. RAYBOY01 (2010) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 27, 2005
UPDATED: AUG 28, 2005 Easily the best of the impy’s at the Craft Brewer’s Replicale Fest. Good malt base, nicely hopped with a refreshing bitter bite in the finish. Very good beer and Matt did it with his hands tied behind his back! StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 21, 2005
Translucent orangish-gold with a thin white sheet for the head. Subtle hoppy aroma. Something hints at sweaty gym clothes, orange juice and grapefruit. Creamy, full-bodied and bitter indeed. Grassy, with a nice, assertive bitter grapefruit character. Malt backbone and balance is to be commended. Pineapple puckering manifests primarily in the dry, clean finish with an appreciative hop stop lingering as the aftertaste. Nicely done. mj23 (63) - south holland, Illinois, USA - AUG 21, 2005
This is a great IPA hope it lasts a while here. Pours good, looks good, aroma outstanding and tastes better.

Sampled at the Great Taste of the Midwest 2005. The body is a cloudy amber gold. The aroma is massive grapefruit and grass. The taste has sweet grapefruit with peanuts and toast. A little one dimensional, but everything that I am looking for in a big IIPA. Terminus (3702) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 4, 2005
Well, this starts out like a typical brewhouse IPA, but soon the taste gains complexity and makes you think. Each sip adds something new to the mouth and the hops are balanced with the malt in great way. Very nice beer, i hope they keep this one on tap. After seeing frankenkitty’s and Drnk_McDermott’s ratings, I could contain myself no further. I know this’ll be at the festival on Saturday (this is Thursday), but since I wasn’t going to be far from the brewpub...
Nice job, Matt. While not as super-hopped as Flossmoor Station’s X IPA, this one is still a head clearer with its seriously strong grapefruit and pine aroma. It poured a slightly hazed copper color with a dirty white head that does some amazing lacing as you drink. Medium bodied, it does have a solid caramel/toffee backbone upon which are heaped a voluminous amount of hop bitterness. The abv on this is a meager 7.7%, a bit light for the style, but I did feel a gradual warming besides the blistering on my lips. I’m looking forward to more of this in two days.

On tap at FSR&B. U.S. Beer 26 of 31 for <a href=http://www.americanbeermonth.com> American Beer Month! Oh dear, another <a href=http://illinoisbeer.com/>beer festival I’ll have to miss. At least Matt has his entry in the ICBG ReplicAle on tap now. Pours a lovely, cloudy amber-orange with a thin, clingy IPA head. Regrettably, I can’t smell too much of it here at the brewpub, just a little bit of a nice, clean hop bill. Taste is pretty hoppy, as expected. More to the piney side, with a touch of grapefruit and spearmint. My tongue kicks like a baby if I try to hold it in my mouth too long. Of course the malts are pretty much overwhelmed; just say there’s a nice caramel maltiness without too much distracting sweetness. Any extra alcohol in this smackdown is pretty well hidden, but I am getting pretty warm... luckily I didn’t try this Sunday when the temerature was over 100°. Much stickiness left behind on my lips. frankenkitty (2012) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - JUL 25, 2005
Great looking beer with a caramel-touched copper body under an average, creamy, off-white head with good retention leaving lace in a smooth sheet. Big hop aromas were immediately orange rind with pine and grapefruiut emerging late. Grapefruit and honey in the flavor with a ham-handed sweetness to start. Otherwise held a thorough bitterness with a small suggestion of malt balance. Slick palate (borderline syrupy) with soft carbonation and a touch of alcohol left in the sinuses. Very rich... I needed two glasses of ice water alongside my pint.
