Thin copper color. No head. Nose is thin with some malts and more caramel. Taste is sharp with dark fruits, cream and yeast. Better than your average oktoberfest.
Draught at Maple Tree Inn, Blue Island, IL. Not much aroma. Slightly hazy body with some lace. Nice brew, although nothing abnormally special. Enjoyable. My rating may be lower than it should based on what I understand may be a beer line cleanliness issue at Maple Tree. If I find it somewhere else in the Chicagoland area before it runs out, I’ll give it another go. RAYBOY01 (2010) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 25, 2006
Very attractive pour...hazy golden and rocky white head. Very malt heavy, as per style, with a bisquit/bread/caramel profile. A touch more carbonation than usual and a bit more floral hoppiness, too. Quite a sessionable Octoberfest, just ask Heidi! DrnkMcDermott (3122) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - SEP 25, 2006
UPDATED: NOV 5, 2009 Revised rating from draft. 9/29 This time, I’ve gotten a better pour, and upped my rating a few notches. This one actually seemed nice and clear, good Vienna malt color, and almost still until you sip. Taste is a bit candyish, like a Werther’s. Not as much yeast taste as my previous sample, obviously. Still, very drinkable and enjoyable for a cool autumn night.
Draft. 9/25. Rating: 3 Very, very cloudy. I must have gotten the dregs of the keg. Still, I can report that it is very strong in malts; a nice middle ground between pilsener and Vienna. If the cloudiness here is from yeast, at least it doesn’t much affect the taste. Not much to tell about its hop profile, just an equal to the malts, as befits this style. Darn it, I guess I’ll have to have another to recheck its appearance. Cornfield (5569) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - SEP 25, 2006
Nice pour from the growler, a hazy orange, slightly brown, with a creamy beige head. There was an unusual but seemingly fitting floral bouquet over a sweet, lightly toasted malt aroma. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. The sweet malts rightfully took over in the flavor department with just enough herbal bitterness to keep it from getting cloying. Very quaffable.

<font size=-4>Thanks to <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=3 and <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=1 for bringing me a growler when I couldn’t get to the Oktoberfest at <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Places/ShowPlace.asp? Station.<font size=-1>
Served as quite a murky amber/sepia under a thickish, ecru head that held steady over the course of the beer. Floral and lagered aroma with a spicy flavor resting on a sweet, malted backbone. Hefty mouthfeel, but not too fat to keep me and my wife from pounding pint after pint at FSRB’s Oktoberfest. Matt thought the finish could do with some additional finishing hops to clean it off the palate, but I thought this was a nice, heavy Märzen that was a perfect respite to a chilly, rainy afternoon.
