Draft, at Flossmoor Station. Probably the last chance to taste a Todd Ashman beer for quite a while. The server said it’s made the rounds of festivals and contests, but it’s rarely been on tap, and this is the last cask. The brandy snifter gave it a firm tan head over a solid brown to black body. The first sip has both the taste and texture of plums and raisins, giving way to whiskey and stoutish coffee notes. There’s support from some fragrant hops, too. Aging has really mellowed out the alcohol taste to a buttery smoothness. Once I drank down part of the glass, I could smell a more concentrated whiskey smoothness. Get it now, while you can.
Dark brown body with no appreciable head. Vary malty aroma with hints of Bourbon. Flavor is a nice mix of malt, chocolate, and Bourbon. Hot in the mouth. Decent beer. vyvvy (6468) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - APR 12, 2007
Sampled at Schlafly’s Repeal of Prohibition Fest. This was one of the more interesting at the fest. Pours dark rich hazy brown with a dense tan head. The aroma has vanilla, sour fruit, passion fruit, mild and light spice. Medium / full body with a small amount of sharp carbonation - lush and smooth. The flavor starts with sour fruits, toasted caramel barleywine malt, hints of bourbon and vanilla. The finish has lots of spice, barnyard and pepper. A very unique mix of styles that is not easy categorized and thus falls appropriately under American Strong Ale. on tap at the maproom, pours dark brown with off white head. very molasses and bourbon nose with hints of chocolate. flavor has nicely balanced notes of chocolate, nuts, cherries, bourbon, and mild oxidation. mouthfeel is a tad thin but carbination is nice and low. alcohol is extremely well hidden but resulted in a nice buzz. a very drinkable bourbon aged beer. Sampler flight at Flossmoor Station. Dark plum brown pour with a thick head. Hints of bourbon on nose, hits hard. Almost black in color with an abundant tan head. The nose is intense bourbon, toffee, and molasses. The alcohol is pretty prominent throughout. The flavors range from sweet caramel, toffee, molasses, Jim Beam, oak, burnt nuts (and you know painful THAT can be!), dates, figs, and a spicy peppery twist that i attribute to the alcohol punch. Good!

On tap at the 4th anual Festival of Wood and barrel Aged Beer festival at GI Wriglyville Nov 4th, 2006.
Nearly black, totally opague with a thin rim of tan head. As it has been said that this had to be poured from a pitcher because it exploded from the tap. Nose has lots of pepper and spice. Taste is flat in texture but lots of strong bourbon and alcohol. Spicy with lots of dark fruits here and there.
An uncontrollable head warranted pouring this off the jockey box into a pitcher. It remained a frothy tan over a deep mahogany. Clay and earthen notes aling with some chocolaty malts and alot of overpowering whisky. Thin with creeping potency . Dry & chocolaty. Complexities ensue. Wow. (and that, my friends, is where my notes on this one end.)

sampled at barrel-aged brewfest. pitch black, though red lines edges. elegent head. all bourbon aroma. pretty flat. aroma pure bourbon. palate thin. but good, solid flavor. flavor is a bit muted. a little nutty, but it wouldn’t be there if the description didn’t suggest it. what an awful review. Very dark brown, nearly black in body with only a few bubbles from the pour. There’s a goodly amount of Bourbon in the nose along with the sweet malts and slight woodiness. The flavor’s a crafted blending of Bourbon, toffee, hints of chocolate covered nuts, and a burning alcohol. The finish is sweet, sticky, and hot. Very nice.
