UPDATED: JUN 25, 2008 Rated from notes. Served draft at the pub. Poured a cloudy strawlike yellow with a vibrant white foamy head. Aromas were definately of esters, giving me that banana smell I just love. Other sweet aromas and a bit of the typical wheat. Initial tastes are sweet, banana and clove, with orange zest. Aftertaste hangs pleasantly leaving me remembering the nice esters and refreshing nature of this brew (in my humble opinion). A nice light bodied summer brew in honor of the Cicada invasion of 2007. dm9831 (1512) - Monee, Illinois, USA - MAR 12, 2008
pours cloudy gold, white head. the aroma is sweet and has a banana in it. the flavor is also sweet, and has a banana in it. a thin mouth feel, sweet finish. not a bad wheat; wheat is not my style. nolankowal (939) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - NOV 21, 2007
On tap @ brewpub. Cloudy yellow pour with a white head. Aroma of banana, yeast and some light mint. Flavors of banana, lemon zest, light mint and yeast. Light body, yeasty/fruity with a somewhat fruity finish. JLAudio (282) - Crestwood, Illinois, USA - NOV 2, 2007
Had a light color and body for this style, and seemed a bit tame. It was more of a wheat ale than anything, but still had the qualities of a hefe. It was full of banana, clove, and even a slight vanilla character, but lacked the fullness I like in this style. It was drinkable, but average. This pint came at about the same time as the Bride Ale. I opted to go for the other first so this one was my second sample of the afternoon. I was caught off guard by a brewpub doing a passable hefeweizen. Most of the ones I’ve had are lacking but this one is pretty solid. While I would not place it among the best examples of the style it is good enough that I would easily recommend it to friends.
Aroma / Appearance - The bubbling golden body was glazed by a white head. Dried banana chips, raspberries and white bread were the strongest elements. It is summarized best as liquid banana nut bread. I prefer my hefeweizens to be a bit fruitier but this one isn’t bad.
Flavor / Palate - Banana, chocolate chips, spices (orange zest and nutmeg) hit the senses after a brief delay. The aftertaste is firmly banana and hangs heavy in the throat. The total experience is creamy and filling but yet somehow just a bit dulled. I don’t know if it is because I like my beers more crisp and vibrant or this one just doesn’t stand out but I found it hard to get excited. It’s not bad by any stretch. I just don’t know that I would rush to try it again.
On tap at Flossmoor, 9/22/07. Cloudy yellow with bright white foam, decent lacing. Aroma is typical, banana with a little bit of citrus. Flavor is nice and wheaty, very nice yeast character, fantastic mouthfeel. kseecs16 (1216) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - SEP 3, 2007
Draught at the pub, 6/26/07. Smells beautiful, full of cloves, vanilla cookie, and banana. Really an awesome Hefe from an American brewer. A golden pour, darker in the center. Very smooth silky mouth feel. The strong yeasty character makes this beer a standout. gws57 (1276) - Saint Charles, Illinois, USA - AUG 27, 2007
Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Flossmoor, Illinois. Cloudy, nearly opaque dark yellow pour with a thick, foamy off-white head, very clovey nose with banana nut breadiness, very clovey taste with citrusy hops and a little orange. Might be the best smelling beer I’ve ever had. Delicious! illinismitty (2377) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 4, 2007
UPDATED: AUG 6, 2007 Draft at Radio Maria in Champaign, IL. Pours a pale cloudy yellow with a nice frothy white head. Light bodied with a nice refreshing texture. Nice estery aroma of banana clove. Flavor of light wheat malts, clove, and hefe yeast. Very moderate amount of sweetness and banana flavor. Not bad, but I prefer my hefes to have tad more body and sweetness. On tap at the brew-pub. Very light, almost white pour. Looks like a Belgian wit. Some banana/bubblegum aroma. Flavor is spicy and estery (more banana and bubblegum). Good representation of the style.
