From old tasting notes. Label says "brewed by Whitbread PLC in London, England". Hazy Amber orange color topped by a thick creamy beige head. Lovely toffeeish malt aroma. Smooth, creamy complex, spicy malt flavor has an underlying fruitiness to it. Nicely balanced by light bitter hops in finish. MrTipple (4968) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 9, 2014
Aroma: light malty, some hops. Appearance: clear dark gold, no head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: some bitters appearing, medium long dry finish. Overall: unremarkable bitter with the irritating description "strong ale" on the label. Pint at The Marquis of Westminster, London. BOSSbrewer (2705) - Arkansas, USA - AUG 2, 2013
Fine English bitter. Pours a copper color with little to no head. Minimal flavor thou has some malt on the nose. Had in Dover on cask. dogbomb (1217) - ENGLAND - JUN 17, 2013
Cask. Rust coloured ale with a thick yellow-white top. Nose is malty with some orange rind and marmalade smells. More marmalade in the mouth, with a touch of copper and old pennies, and some sweet malts. Lacking something and overall a bit too sweet. (1997), 50cl. Head:creamy off-white colored foam. Color: copper. Aroma: laurel, licorice, malt. Taste: some bitter. Palate: some bitter, thin body, lasting. Overall: nice
Sampled this well known bitter in Coanes, Johnstone in March 1991. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear dark amber in colour with a creamy white head, unusual fragrance of summer flowers in the aroma. Thin mouthfeel leads to a slight sweetish taste overall. PAle malt base gives a light floral digestive biscuit base with soft berry fruit. Dry hop resin in the rounded aftertaste cuts through the sweetness. Malt returns in the sweetish finish with barley sugar noted in the mouth. A poor session bitter. reebtogi (6277) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 1, 2011
500ml can poured a pale golden color with a frothy white head and some thin lacing. Aroma of light grains and hops. Taste is light malty sweet and a moderate hoppy bitter finish. Not a big fan of nitro flow brews, but this is one of the better ones. greenmanalishi (547) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2011
On tap, Manchester. Pours clear, light gold. Minimal head. Mild for something that describes itself as "strong ale"(?). Bready flavours and a little floral lacing. Smooth mouthfeel Leighton (21258) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2011
Cask at the Westbourne. Pours a clear, rich copper with pretty much no head. Nuts, mild toast and mild fruits on the nose. Some doughy malts and burnt nuts in the flavor with light sweetness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Very dry finish with heavy herbal and leafy hops. Nothing special.
