Amber color with medium head. Big hoppy & Sweet aroma. Taste is of dark fruits with some decent hop flavor. Good, but a bit unbalanced for the style. Bonus point for the name as I used to enjoy jumping out of those cool C-130s. ross (2146) - weddington, North Carolina, USA - DEC 22, 2006
Bottle from Santa. No idea when this was bottled as the date had worn off. Pours out a light red to almost orange color. Smell is sweet, malty, fruity, reminds me a good bit of the smell of double bastard. Taste is low on the carbonation, but it tastes more like a barley wine in all ways than it does a strong ale. Plenty of hops and caramel malts coming through. I didnt really enjoy the first half of it, then once I was accustomed to it, it became much better. Not a bad beer to seek out. rudolf (2360) - Buffalo, New York, USA - NOV 15, 2006
2005 bottle sampled 11/06. Copper, slightly ruby hues. Smallish white pillow head. Nose is plum, tobacco, caramel, alcohol. Flavor is fruity caramel, rich malt. Bitter but not overly so. Like a fruit bitter doppelbock. Wonderful rich mouthfeel. THis is aging wonderfully. IPFreely (1470) - Sanborn, New York, USA - SEP 20, 2006
Bottle at Sterling Tavern. Pours a lightly hazy, firey amber color with a smaller cream colored head. Nice aroma of caramel, apricot, brown sugar, and lighter hops. Flavor is strong, nice and sweet with some caramel and toffee, fig, and some spicy hops in the finish. Medium to full bodied, alcohol detected, but not strong at all. Judging from the previous ratings, it looks like the booze might be calming a bit. Who knows. I liked it though. illinismitty (2271) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 13, 2006
Bottle via in person trade with Rudolf. Thanks Rudy. Pours dark amber with a diminishing white head. Faint aroma of caramel and malt. Initial flavor of caramel and maple syrup with some sugary notes, following by a mild spicy hop bite. Nice mellow and slightly slick mouthfeel. The maltiness shines through to the finish where it is joined by a nice bitterness. Lots of barleywine characteristics, but without the thick and syrupy mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Bottle saved for me by Tim the owner. Barrleywine and scotch like mouthfeel. Good strong. I can see why this went quickly. Worth a premium price. Pailhead (6543) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - JUL 30, 2006
Bottle: Courtesy of rudolf via Secret Santa. Aroma of caramel apples, fruit, and a hint of alcohol. Pours a hazy brownish-orange with an off-white ring for a head. Almost looks like apple cider with a small head. Flavor is lots of caramel apple up front. Real big piney and flowery hopped finish lingers for a while on the palate. Only light alcohol is noticeable in the finish behind all the hops. Mouthfeel is lightly oily with very little carbonation. Decent, but some aging is probably needed for improvement. BCTC friday night tasting thanks to Rudy. This was a big strong ale. Aroma is sweet caramel malts friuty esters like figs, and an alcohol kick as it warmed. Flavor of more sweet malt with a moderate hop backbone, more alcohol, and finishes off a bit weak and not enough body in the end. Pretty tasty though. This is another example of well crafted strong ale. Smooth and drinkable despite its powerful alcohol content. hard tio guess that is ale kick almost 10 percent . dberger624 (1028) - Voorhees, New Jersey, USA - MAR 17, 2006
Bottled. Nice big beer. Good malt flavor with a alcohol punch. Nice and smooth.
