Keg at BD Castlegate. It pours jet black with a thick, foamy tan head. The aroma is big liquorice and aniseed throughout, fennel, tasty pine, charred notes, cacao. The taste is dry, bitter, charred roasted malt, loads of liquoirce and aniseed, toasted pine, peppery spice, chewy action and a touch of alcohol on the back - end. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Intense on the aniseed charred, probably overly so. Not bad nonetheless. mR_fr0g (14241) - Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 11, 2018
Keg at Brewdog Shoreditch. An opaque black coloured pour with a lasting loose mid tan head. Aroma is black liquorice little smoked malt, jammy fruits and pine hop. Flavour is composed of semi sweet nutty malts, butter black liquorice, light ashy roast, singed pine needles. Palate is medium bodied, highish carbonation. Good. Little harsh in the finish. Keg Shepherds Bush. Pours black, generous white head. Muted roast malt aroma. Palate is massively dry, roasty. It's pretty simple stuff but it's a stupidly refreshing dry black IPA. I would buy a shitload of this in cans if it was available.
