Bottle (355ml from Good Spirits Co. Glasgow):
Herbal and quite spicy with a strong, sweet aroma mixed with some caramel and honey. There is some orange zest in the aroma too along with some mild pine and citrus notes, rounded off with some grapefruit as well.
An orange amber colour with a thin, half centimetre tall and slightly off white head that disappears after about thirty seconds.
Herbs upfront and a good caramel base and plenty of spice. There is a floral flavour coming through and some bitterness despite the zero IBU’s and strange, sort of elderflower and perfume aftertaste.
Medium bodied, fairly smooth and with mild carbonation and plenty of spice and a touch of sweetness plus the aforementioned bitterness.

I preferred this one slightly more than the Brewdog version, with both being rather disappointing. This one had a very good aroma but the taste was lacking some and the rest was pretty average so it’s not one I would recommend.

Aromas are fragrant and floral, with some herbs and subtle mint. Appearance is dark gold with a moderately fluffy white head. Tastes slightly sweet, slightly bitter, with very floral earthy flavors. On the palate a medium-bodied beer with a refreshing level of pillowy carbonation, and a moderately long lingering finish.

Pours dark copper with quickly dissipating head and lots of sediment. Aroma is ginger and root vegetables. Taste adds pineapple and loads of pepper. More interesting than good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

For a vegetable / spice beer, it makes its point. This has never been a style that I liked, but I do taste the notes of ginger, some citrus, some caramel malt, grass and some odd spice. For what it is, it’s ok.

Amber golden colour wih a small white head that soon vanish. Nice aroma with a lot of pepper and some fruity notes. Medium pluss body and slightly sweet. What a great and complex flavour. Yummi. Spicy, pepper, caramel and a bit fruity. Holy ghostship mmmm. Smooth carbonation. Flying Dog won this competition by far!

Bottle. Clear deep golden body, small white head. Aroma is nettles, black cardamom, pepper, caramel, hints of nougat, banana, nuts and nougat. Intriguing, yet mellow. Taste is caramel, cinnamon, cardamom, banana, grass, parsley, hints of pale malts and juniper. Faint traces of orange peel. Spicy, but somehow still mellow and nice in all its complexity. Smooth body and soft carbonation. A nice and original spice ale which I feel is completely underrated at present date.

Bottle. Not very enjoyable. Lots of spice, strong aftertaste that coats the mouth. Clear, light copper color. Not sure what this was going for, but very hard to drink-- surprising from Flying Dog.

brief_smile (110) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 20, 2012
Keg @ Arcadia. Cloudy cider colour, no head. Nose is winter spices, gooseberry, grape juice. Taste is acidic, sour and slightly vegetal. Very tart finish. Medium carbonation. Not a fan, I’m afraid.
