COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you dont show it the proper respect. IBUs: 85

Great look after the pour with a nice tan head. Smells and tastes increasingly hoppy which balances exquisitely with the flood of malt undertones. Really dont get many different flavors from it, but very much enjoyed the hop balance of this strong porter.

Black pour with small tan head. Aroma is powerful with coffee and roasted malts. Taste is similar with intense coffee, roasted malts and dark chocolate with a warming whack of alcohol at the end. Heavy body.

From a bottle. Pours a murky dark color with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate and dark malt. Taste was sweet with hints of dark malts, chocolate, some coffee and the sweetness is balanced by some piney hops. Great brew by Flying Dog very enjoyable.

Thick black beer with a thick milk chocolate head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is warm and malty with bursts of fruit, alcohol, hops, and coffee. Flavor is amazing with a full mouthfeel and a satisfying blend of bitterness, spicyness, maltyness, and goodness. This is one awesome beer!!!

UPDATED: APR 27, 2009 12 Oz. Bottle - Vintage 2003 - An incredible surprise! I thought Id had this beer before, but not such a vintage! Given to me by a dear Bud-hee who loves Hunter S. Thompson but, alas, not (good) beer. Poured dark brown/black with a nice tan head and good lacing. Aroma of chocolate, caramel, malt, tobacco, earth, small hops. Taste was quite the same but I simply could not believe how hoppy this had stayed after 5+ years. Aftertaste is pure bitter, chocolately hops. This along with Three Floyds Alpha Klaus are absolutely among the best and most flavorful porters Ive ever had. Normally I dont even drink porters - I head straight for the stouts - but this is better than many of the stouts Ive tried. Ina word- delicious.

This is the best Flying Dog brew Ive had. But compared with the truly great porters its just average with some new elements to make it interesting.
