Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you dont show it the proper respect. IBUs: 85

Superb beer! Pours black with brown head. Delicious aromas of whiskey malt. Liquorice, chocolate, hops. Creamy, full bodied with a thick texture. Alcohol well hidden. Among the best.

Pours a thick deep dark brown. The nose is a strong coffee with subtle chocolate notes. Comes across the palate very similar; but it has a very faint chocolate undertones.

Gives a nice light brown head which only remains as a haze throughout. Aroma has dark chocolate and wood. Taste is smokey and coarse yet somewhat sweet as strong coffee with brown sugar. Aftertaste is first a sharp bitterness than almonds and similar nuts.

Pours black, thick and opaque with a rich mahogany head. A Bordelais waiter I worked with once stuck his nose in a glass of 20 year old first growth bordeaux from a great vintage and announced that this shit could make you believe in God. This beer is threatening my atheism. Roasted nuts, caramel, toffee, coffee, earthy, foresty hops. Something rich and warm and natural that evokes toasted oak, even though as far as I know this beer is not actually oaked. I cant wait to try the version that is barrel aged. The alcohol is niether obtrusive nor hidden, but contributes positively and harmoniously to the overall flavor of the beer. Enough hops to create tension with rich maltiness. The texture is practically perfect, like syrup in the mouth but not cloying after swallowing. The flavors linger, and a touch of tart fruitiness emerges at the end. A long, complex finish with an aftertaste of figs or maybe dates.

Pours a dark brown with little-no light getting through; brown head laces. Malt upfront on the nose with hint of hops, some chocolates and oak aswell. Roasted malt and smoak up frront with chewy chocolatey coffee middle. Finishes with a nice warming brandy alcohol flavor with all flavors lingering. Medium-full body. Added points for the cool hunter thompson artwork. Let this one warm up to you! (definitely a cold weather brew)

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2009 An imperial stout in disguise. Raven black with dark brown head. One of the best looking beers Ive ever seen. Flavor is complex without being overwhelming. Great blend of coffee, roasted nuts, chocolate. Very smooth mouthfeel and finish. This is simply a great beer and one of my favorite porters.

This beer is a staple in my fridge. I cant believe I havent rated this yet. The pour is an extremely deep brown, bordering on black, with a small coppery head. The nose is malty with hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and caramel. The flavor is rich with roasted malts, creamy touches dark of chocolate and coffee are present. A wonderful stout worthy of of its tribute to Hunter S. Thompson.

Poursa a dark brown with a light brown head and a decent lacing on the glass. Smells of roasted malts, coffee, hops, and hint of something light and fruity... I cant quite place what specifically is giving off the fruit-vibes. Hops and toasted malts hit the tongue with an underlying fruit and hints of chocolate(?). A nice full bodied porter that is well balanced and has a mild aftertaste. Definately drinkable, though maybe not something Id go out of my way to get ahold of. Serving type: on-tap

Draft. Dark brown pour with a frothy off-white head. Coffee on the nose, malty and a bit fruity in taste. Delicious beer.
