COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you dont show it the proper respect. IBUs: 85

Aroma is of chocolate and hints of berry. Fairly sweet in the beginning with a slight bitter finish. Alcohol is hidden by the strong malty backbone.

Enjoyed via a bottle from a friend's cellar (thank you!) Pours a dark coffee brown with no head. The smell is effervescent. The taste is sour and creamy with a hint of vanilla and bourbon. The finish is sour and creamy; one of the best beers I've had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2005 Imperial Porter..Hmmm? I have not tasted many Porters so this is a treat. From the bottle this beer pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is malty sweet with coffee notes and a bold hop presence. Dark chocolate and roasted coffee smothered in a nice resiny piney hop topping the flavor. Lots of other yummy and unpredictable things going on with this brew. Smooth feel with only a little tickle in the swallow. The 9.5 ABV is well blended making this a truly sneaky beer. Hunter would likely approve. I certainly do...and am off to pour another.

I can see why they call it an American Strong Ale instead of IS, its a bit hoppy but has the chocolate, roasted, nutty, and sweet character as well. Possibly the best from FD.

Bottle 0,33l Color - Black. Fantastic huge, beige foam, staying long, lacing glass. Aroma: Just perfect! American hops mixed with dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, caramel, raisins. Great balance. I can smell it and smell it all the time. Taste: Sweetness from chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, dark fruits connecting with hoppy bitterness - pines, oranges, some grass, fruits. Creamy mouthfeel and long warming finish. Just amazing. Medium body with smooth, velvet texture. Powerfull beer which quickly dissapearing from glass.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2007 Not bad but certainly not dank and worthy as a tribute to HST. Fairly thin and incomplete, like the other Flying Dog beers that Ive tried, but ya gotta love that Ralph Steadman artwork. Got a 4-pack of this stuff for $4.99 plus tax; this liquor store was selling 24-bottle cases for $14-something plus tax and sixers (aside from this style) for $4.99, too. I never would have guessed that it was 9.5% BAV since I didnt get much of a buzz off a bottle. Nice bottle, though, if youre a collector.

I love this stuff with a passion. Very dark pour. Nose very hoppy dark roast malt. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, baked bread. Very rich almost syrupy mouthfeel. I can tell in the balance what makes it a porter but still very close to most imperial stouts. Amazing Amazing Amazing!!!!!

Pours as black as ink, with a light brown head. Nose has a nice mix of floral hoppiness and roasted malt. In the mouth this beer thick and clingy. Sweet with a mellow bitterness. The flavor hangs around for a bit. Nice but not all the time.
