Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you dont show it the proper respect. IBUs: 85

One of my favourite porters now, so rich, lots of flavours, chocolate, roasted malts and some coffee to name but a few. Creamy on the palate with alcohol very well masked. Nice!

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2007 Really solid imperial. Nice smooth aroma. What Ive found is that it gets better when it gets warm. Go figure. The bottle design is a big perk.

UPDATED: JAN 17, 2009 poured motor oil black...nice 2 finger head that dissipated pretty quick. Smells wonderful of the roasted malts. Can taste the hops - not bitter at all. Taste of dark malt and really picking up a chocolate, coffee flavor. finish a bit stout due to the alcohol bite, but is by no means overwhelming. Wonderfully flavorful beer and one that i will definitely have to get again.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet, Norway. Pours almost pitch black, with a thick beige head. It leaves a decent lacing once the head dissipates. Aroma is not exactly overwhelming, but has hints of roasted malts and coffee as well as chocolate. The mouthfeel is pretty good, has a decent thickness to it. First impression when tasting it wasnt the best, but maybe the bottle was too cold. This one definitely gets better as it warms up. Taste is roasted, with chocolate and licorice. And quite bitter, leaves a nice aftertaste this one. I could drink this all night, but that could make for a short night due the relatively strong abv, which isnt too noticeable really. A very good imperial porter.

Citrusy, flowery hops, alcohol, coffee, ripe fruit, and caramel in the aroma. Pretty close to black with a thin tan head. Rich chocolate and coffee flavors balanced with pronounced resiny hops, solid hop bitterness, moderate roast character. Full-bodied and creamy with fine carbonation.

I took one for the team since i enjoy hunter s. thompsons work, but oh goodness... not only is it thick as corn syrup, but it was very heavy of thick tan head. thank goodness i only need 2 ounces to rate a beer... hahaha.. thanks to irishboy for this beer!

Bottled. Pours dark black with a very thin brown head. Powerful notes of coffee and licorice in the nose, with a fine hopping. strong aroma. Creamy mouth feel and the flavor has notes of black chocolate, roasted malt and licorice. full body, average tporter carbonation, long finish with high bitterness from Cascade hops. A light hint of alcohol is felt and warms you well. It becomes better as it warms. After all a very fine beer, even though I hoped better
