This beer is a staple in my fridge. I can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet. The pour is an extremely deep brown, bordering on black, with a small coppery head. The nose is malty with hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and caramel. The flavor is rich with roasted malts, creamy touches dark of chocolate and coffee are present. A wonderful stout worthy of of its tribute to Hunter S. Thompson. beern (126) - Alabama, USA - MAR 10, 2017
Pours jet black and completely opaque with a 2-finger lingering dark tan head and an aroma of sweet malt. Tastes of malt, milk chocolate and cocoa with a very mild finish hint of balanced sweetness and hops. The palate is viscous and full bodied and then some with minimal carbonation. Draft. Dark brown pour with a frothy off-white head. Coffee on the nose, malty and a bit fruity in taste. Delicious beer. dodskenta (125) - Rönninge, SWEDEN - SEP 12, 2015
Dark color with a small beige head. Roasted malts, chocolate, anis and herb dominate the aroma. Flavour is lots of chocolate, coffee and herbs. Quite bitter. Full mouthfeel and nice velvety texture. Long and pleasant aftertaste. grapengrain (124) - Havelock North, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 8, 2011

Yum! This brew oured very dark with little light brown head. It smelled sweet and chocolatey. The flavors of chocolate and coffee are definitely apparent, with he coffee flavor definitely lingering on the palette. It is very drinkable despite its heaviness, with the bitter of hops there but is mostly masked by other flavors. maugus4ever (123) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - JUL 1, 2008
UPDATED: JUL 15, 2008 Bottle from Julio’s Liquors in Westborough, MA. Great flavor with a wonderful balance of chocolatey coffee malts and hops. Barely any head, but the slight head it had was almost a dark copper color. Simply a great beer that is definitely worth trying. str023 (123) - Stokmarknes, NORWAY - FEB 3, 2012
Deep brown almost black body. Dark beige head which disappears relatively quickly. Smooth oily moutfeel. Aroma of licorice, coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate and maybe some oak. Has a touch of mocca and roasted coffee beans in the finish. Great porter, no doubt! BT (123) - Westchester, Illinois, USA - JUL 18, 2005
12 oz. bottle from Newtown, CT in a Tulip glass. My first Flying Dog. Poured like black gold with a brown thick, foamy head that eventually dissolved. Aroma of baking chocolate and coffee, pleasant, just a bit of alocohol though. Taste also of bitter chocolate and coffee, some licorice and alcohol in the after-taste. Very suprised at how good this was, although a bit more sweet, it would have made for a higher rating. Agaguk (122) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 7, 2009
