COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 9.2% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you dont show it the proper respect. IBUs: 85

Opaque black body. Head is very fizzy and not all that appealing looking. Aroma is sweet, licorice, toffee, roasted malt. The flavor is roasted malt, balanced sweetness (not as sweet as I expected from the aroma) and bitterness. Full mouthfeel, quote pleasant on this the eve of a historic snowstorm!

Good beer, but not great to me. Hop seems overdone. Poured aggresively but only got a smallish burnt sugar colored head that quickly subsided and no lace. Color is an opaque black brown. Aroma is roasty, dark ripe fruit, coffee, malty, and more bitter than sweet. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor and fairly long. Has a fairly subtle but present alcohol characteristic. Not a session.

12oz bottle from Brewery Creek in Vancouver. Pours almost black with a decent sized tan colored head. Aroma is sweet roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. Flavor is chocolate, coffee, dried fruit, slight hops. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, bitter-sweet finish. I was underwhelmed considering the high ratings average...but it just didnt do it for me.

Deep brown body and espresso crema head. Aroma is faintly dry and a bit chocolate. Good roast malt character of coffee chocolate and caramel, a bit sweet taste, has an edge to it from the malts. Plenty of hop complexity.

12oz bottle from Winooski
Appearance : Deep black with a small brown creamy head
Aroma : Lots of liquorice with oily hops. Some roasted malt. Notes of raisins.
Taste : Liquorice and roasted malt with lots of hops. Hops are slightly resinous and piny. Finish is strong notes of liquorice with hops and roasted malt. Some alcohol as well.
Overall : Too much liquorice for my taste. Or maybe it is the hops that I dont like in it, I dont know. I can say its well brewed but its just not my thing.

Dark black drink. Small head which goes away quick. Strong, quite alcohoilc, smell that reminds burned porridge. Taste is sweet and feeling oily. Theres lots of aromas, chocolate, coffee, caramel and raisin. The taste does not seem to develop much after waiting. Thats not necessarily bad thing, theres lots of things to taste to begin with. Clearly a tasting beer, that you should not drink in large quantities or after six pints of later.

looks like it should pours black with brown head. smells roasty, malty, with a tinge of sweetness and booze at the end. tastes pretty nice, but has an interesting bite at the end. hoppy for a porter, but its imperial, i guess... a little thin on the palate, but not bad overall.

Black with a thin head. Aroma is strong licorice and some dark fruit. Flavor is strong licorice, a little overly sweet. Not bad, but could be much better balanced.
