Dark brown body, with nice, light brown, long lasting head, and excellent lacing. Aroma was caramel, mocha, with a hing of pine. Taste was burnt, nutty, choclate, espresso, and sweet, with a lasting mildly bitter finish. Mild alcohol, but did a great job of hiding the 9%. Texture was creamy with soft, but fitting carbonation. Delightful, tasty beer, which definitely is worth buying again. Braudog (6791) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - JUL 23, 2006
UPDATED: JAN 6, 2008 Poured like motor oil, complete with the "glug glug" ... except the giant marshmellowy brown head on top (it’s so thick, you can scoop it out like a milkshake on your finger). The seductive aroma is of whiskey malt and pine trees. The first quaff is enlightening, with a burnt timber aspect, but with a resounding dried fruit sweetness that presides. Exceptionally big, robust beer. Not what I should be drinking in this heat. I’ll buy more this winter! bodhijah (8) - Kent, Ohio, USA - APR 18, 2007 does not count
sweet, sweet GonZo juice, how i have loved thee...much, much better on draft than from the bottle...have served this on tap since the first batches were unleashed in the spring/summer of 2005...deep, deep roasted flavors and aromas reminiscent of baker’s chocolate with a slight hint of (dare i say it here!) hashish and dried fruit...at its best( i believe, in 2005) a massive assault on the senses...an opaque monster of a porter dwarfing inferior stouts...’you buy the ticket, you take the ride...’ !r.i.p.h.s.t.! snakeypirate (2) - California, USA - JUN 26, 2007 does not count

UPDATED: OCT 4, 2007 Bottle. Dark, black with a dirt-brown head. Very sweet, thick palate. Some hops in the aroma makes this come together wonderfully, otherwise, malts.. coffee. This is really good.
Re-rate: SBWF 2007. Had to take this up a few notches. Amazing stuff!

Nightblack, with steddy foam. Smelles of dried fruit, coffee and herbes.
Extremely long duration of aftertaste.
One of the top 5 beers I have tasted. dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - AUG 22, 2009
Incredible. Besides being a huge HST fan, I’m a huge fan of this beer. Has a terrific aroma of coffee and roasted malts. What makes this beer even better is it’s balance between it’s ABV and its flavor. What a great beer. Carrick (2) - , California, USA - FEB 14, 2010 does not count
Bottle from ’Total Wine & More.’ Bottle labeled "Vintage 09HH"
Pours almost black [dark red when small amount is held against the light] with a dark tan head. Smells and tastes roasted. Slightly bitter but not over-powering. Full bodied, with a thick texture. The carbonation is strong at first, but once the head disappears the carbonation settles down but never goes soft. The finish lasts for a long time with a strong start and mellows out over time. Overall Hunter S. Thompson would be proud with this amazing imperial porter. ketilgr (7) - NORWAY - DEC 17, 2010 does not count
Lovely beer, perfect color and appearance, and gives a good and healthy, natural taste. Strong but very balanced, complex yet friendly, a truly great porter. Drunk from bottle, gift from friend, 17.dec-10
