3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark, smoky and chocolaty. The heat doesn’t really come through. I am guessing the flavor is in the smoke of the chipotle.
Actually a little better than expected. Habanero gives a sweet flavor and adds a little bit of heat, but not lip smacking or anything like that. Base of the porter leans towards the English hopped kind, or a northeastern style. I only sampled a single, but would try again to be certain...or on draft somewhere local. Pours a deep brown with a minimal beige head. The nose gives off some expected peppery heat, and that makes me happy. Outside of that, there is mostly chocolate and some roasted malt. Not complex, but it gives you anticipation for the sip. And here things unravel. The burn is disappointing. It lingers and its mild. What might be worse is that this weak burn is the main flavor. You will find chocolate, caramel, and a bit of coffee bitterness, but the pepper overtakes what might be some taste game changers. Peppery finish. Light in body, thin textured, more flat in carbonation. If you are going to sacrifice flavor for heat, make my eyes water. beastiefan2k (4230) - HdG (past: NYC, KS, Rain City), Maryland, USA - MAY 12, 2017
12oz bottle, dated BB 8.10.17. Poured into white wine glass. Color is dark brown, almost black. Head is tan, small but stays around. Just a few sips and I feel the burn in the back of the throat. It sticks around for a while. Of the 4-pack, despite what they say, this, for me, is the spiciest. The rest of the beer is a relatively un-offending stout, a little dusty. But I like the heat. Bottle thanks to beastiefan. Near-black pour with short-lived head. Aroma is big on the chocolate up front. Caramel and hints of smoke. Taste: milk chocolate, pleasant roast bitterness, metallic undertones that diminish as it warms up; heat kicks in on the back-end, not too big but definitely featured. Recedes to milk chocolate that lingers on. Medium body, average carbonation. Overall: solid chili stout, reminds me of mildly spicy chocolate truffles. Only complaint is that drinking this does not conjure up sweet jazz lyrics. hopdog (13315) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 2, 2017
12oz bottle. Poured a near black with brown edges and an off white head. Chocolate, some smoke, roast and lighter peppers.

Bottle from Whole Foods variety pack, and totally amazed that this doesn’t have more rates. Pours hazy black, looking magenta thru direct light. Head is tan, three fingers, and frothy. Nose is sweet, dark choc, spicy peppery. Tastes dark malty, oaty, with notes of dark choc, mild heat, coffeeish jalapeno oils. Medium palate heft. More heat late, but the base beer here is a tad watery. crossovert (14233) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 9, 2017
355ml bottle. Dark brown pour. This is a basic stout with a little heat at the end. Chocolate notes and a nice heat in the finish butnothing special. LinusStick (3536) - Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 2, 2017
Meh. An ok run of the mill stout. Aroma was average. Sort notes of milk chocolate were detectable if you put your whole nose in the glass. Pour was a nice deep dark brown/near black with a thin light tan film for a head. Taste was dark roasted malt with a little chocolate. Mid sip introduced very green and vegetal pepper flavors. Finish was chocolate and malty with only a hint of heat from the peppers. It really spicy at all, just pepper flavor. Good carbonation.
