COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

What stood out most was the huge carbonation which i didnt care for much.Alcohol hidden quite well. Not to bad.

Big toffee, chocolate and caramel nose. Nice fluffy head that slips into some lacing. Taste is sweetness like caramel, toffee and a hint of chocolate. Just a tad bit of coconut. Solid

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Much darker than I was expecting, not a lot of head, and no lacing. Sweet, slightly pruney aroma with just a whiff of chocolate. These impressions carry through to the flavor, where a coffee tang joins in. Seems overly sweet, and needs more hopping. The vinous character makes me think more of an impy stout, but it doesn’t quite get there either. Might be worth aging, but it probably won’t become a better barleywine.

Surprising Barley Wine ale with licorice malts. A heavy body is combined with a dark head aroma of chocolate and the oats make the taste not a traditional Barley Wine, making this beer an original. Not as good as I expected.

First time trying a barley wine, so nothing to compare it to. Pours a reddish brown with little/no head. Smells like Twizzlers and alcohol. Taste is of chocolate, licorice, alcohol, and barley. Very sweet, and from what I have read it might be better with some years on it. Just ehh for me.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a small off white head. Aroma of sweet fruit, molasses and malt. Tastes of wood and rasin/citrus. The alcohol is warming, great beer for this raining day.

split a bottle between two little EKU glasses. another one of theose big ole fluffy pillowtop head deals. dark cloudy sienna color, pecan pie sluiced with jack daniels aroma. hubbie took a sip and said "harsh". i took a sip and said "alcohol". i think this may be the first barley wine i've tried, and could very well be the last.

12 oz bottle at Pop the Cap fundraiser. I’m not a huge fan of barleywines, but this is probably my favorite of the ones I’ve had. It isn’t so overwhelmingly sweet or malty. Looking forward to more once NC gets past its antiquainted beer laws.

Well-executed BW. Flying Dog has disappointed me in the past but this is great. Man, big fragrance, lots of malt, if you kill it you’re missing out.

Pours a dark mohagany and smells of malts and licorice. This is a pleasant barley wine on both the nose and mouth. Alcohol is nicely balanced by sweet malt flavors. nice.
