COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein rötlichoranges Bier mit geringer Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr süß malzig, Karamell, holzig, alkoholisch. Geschmack angenehm malzig fruchtig, wärmend, Karamell, alkoholisch.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2010 A big, big beer. Poured a rich amber color with a medium off-white head. Nice malt aroma gives way to a sweet, balanced blend of malt and hops. Quite smooth, low carbonation. Really tasty.

Clear orange brown with an off-white head. Aroma is very sweet caramel, malty, sugary and alcoholic. Flavor is very sweet. Finish is sweet and warming alcohol. Too sweet. 181010

Koelschtrinker (21492) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 25, 2011
6/11/11/9/9/10

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2008 2008-02-08, bottle at Plan B, Copenhagen, vintage 2007, 6-4-8-4-15=37
Dark brown color with red shades; thick head. Strong aroma of caramel, some cookies, alcohol too. Full bodied, with a round mouthfeel; it has a good but monodimensional sweet caramel flavor, loads of it, and the alcohol really warms the mouth as few other beers. The bitterness is balanced. Powerful, good, but no thrills.

Dark brown color; thick head. Creamy aroma, sweet, with some caramel and a touch of wood, maybe very light vanilla. Thick body, a bit oily texture, with a strong caramel flavor, nutty, and a reasonably strong bitterness at the end, when also the alcohol starts burning. Powerful but not special.

Bottle at JF’s, Brewdog Online, 07/03/13. Hazed dark chestnut brown with a thin off white head that clears to the edge. Nose is dark toffee, brown sugars, raisens, dark fruits, light yeast. Taste comprises brown sugar, toffee, dates, raisens, caramelised sugar, booze. Full bodied with moderate carbonation leading to a sweet and boozey finish. A decent barleywine, the alcohol is well integrated for 10%+.

Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is dark amber. Aroma and taste are sweet caramel, malt and fruits. Good long finish.

Bottle from Utobeer. Hazy ruby colour. Not sure that many hops really work with the malts which are syrupy nor the alcohol. Bit soapy on aroma. Hot alcohol and then some syrup and some very thing bitterness. Not a great barley wine. After JW Lees Harvest ale 2003, this is a bit uncultured and a bruiser. Hops are too metallic. fruit comes from the syrupy malts. Poor for its style. Would I have it again? No.

12 oz. bottle, pours a murky orangey brown with almost no head. Aroma of plum, raisins, caramel malts, and a little molasses - not overly aromatic though. Flavour of sweet dried fruits, caramel malts / toffee, pepper and an herbal quality. Not terrible complex and the palate is not overly dense - also a bit cloying in sweetness. Quite decent though.

Oakes (18851) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 7, 2002
UPDATED: JUL 11, 2003 Completely muddled. Terrible structure problems, as alcohol, green apples and poorly extracted malts compete for attention. And where are the hops? Finishes like a durian smells.
