COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big malty flavors, including licorice and chocolate, are balanced with a moderate hop profile. Brewed with copious amounts of prized malts and flaked oats, the Barley Wine is so strong that it has to be aged for several months before we can bottle it. Like a fine wine, it will continue to improve with age up to 2 years after bottling (If kept cool).

12 oz. bottle from Princeton’s. Dark, chocolate brown pour. Big foamy white head. Aroma is sweet and very boozy and so is the flavor. Flavor is also malty witha bit of a syrupy mouth feel. Finish is a boozy linger on your tongue that hangs around for a bit.

2007 Vintage. Pours copper with almost no head. Sweetish bourbon and oak with vanilla, toffee and brown sugar. Just a little bit of oxidation, this has aged pretty beautifully. Full, round, vanilla finish. Very nice for this age, I thought it would be a drain pour.

Pours a pretty copper w/ a tan head & plenty of lacing. The aroma is mostly malt w/ some booziness. The body is stunningly light for 10+%. The flavors of bourbon, oak, & malt really stand out. It has some caramel & slight bitterness in the finish. Complex, tasty, & overall a very nice offering!

Bottled, 355ml aged 3yrs from S.H.Jones in Banbury, Oxon (when it was still open). Ruby to brown with off white head. If this were a wine I would class it as a dessert wine as it is sugary sweet more Muscato than Bordeaux. The sweetness lingers along with an apricot, alcohol note, warming, reasonably smooth. Unlike a wine I didn’t spit as it is worth persevering with giving a glow on a chilly March evening. Went well with fried eggs, tomato’s and potato if you are inclined.Reasonable.

December 2016 - Bottle from my stash shared at LKS Towers. As ’Flying Dog Horn Dog Barley Wine’, around 4-5 years aged. Ruby red, maybe amber, translucent, foamy off-white head. Aroma is toffee and caramel. Pretty simple syrupy nose. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste follows – honey, toffee, very rich and sweet, the booze in the finish cuts through the sweetness a little. Decent overall. (3.3)

Bottle, bbf 2014 thanks to Dirty D. It pours deep red - brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich, very sweet, brown bread, sticky dried fruits, fruit cake, booze, brandy, toffee and brown sugar. The taste is slick, sweet, sticky, toffee, brown bread, fruit cake, spicy, booze, brandy, christmas cake, toasty brown sugar, and wood with a dry, earthy finish. Full body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth - feel. Sweet, yes, but actually not too bad. Decent for style.

Bottle shared at Leightons place, 29/12/2016. Many thanks to Daniel for this one. A ruby red brown coloured pour with a a loose off white head. Aroma is sticky sweet brown sugars, toffee, cinnamon, apple. Flavour is composed of sweet, brown sugars, cakey malts, Toffee, apple, . Palate is sticky sweet, moderate carbonation, . Good stuff.

Bottled. 2015 vintage. Pours murky brown chestnut color. White tan head. Aroma is fig, dark fruit, plum, raisin, some boozy notes, sugar, caramel, bready. Flavor is fig, plum, dark fruit, molasses, bready, full bodied, sugar sweetness, some mild bitter hop notes in the finish. Very English style, sort of has some Belgian notes in that there’s dark fruit and sugar sweetness. Not too Barleywine-ish for me, maybe more English strong ale quality? Hard to say where I’d place this. I’d say Barleywine is fair enough. Decent, not my favorite Barleywine (a bit sweet) but still quite good.
