COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Single Hop Imperial IPAs showcase the most rare and interesting hop varieties and Ella is no exception. Juicy stone fruit (think peaches and plums) dominate with a lingering, yet crisp, finish.

The_Osprey (9343) - Richmond, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 29, 2017
August 2017 - Tasting at Leighton's. Huge thanks! Bottle, as 'Flying Dog Imperial IPA - Ella Single Hop'. Orange, still with a foamy white head that leaves full lacing. Aroma is resinous, orange, perception of sweetness. Body is light and frothy with tingly carbonation. Taste is dusty, spicy, chalky, very dry with more of all the above flavours in the finish. (6-4-5-4-13=3.2)

MrTipple (6570) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 3, 2017
Intense floral hops, sweet, overripe citrus fruit, grain and cereal malts, bread, straw, hay.
Hazy gold, tiny, creamy, white head. Light sweet. More bittersweet citrus fruit, orange, orange peel, tangerine, sweet grain malts, bread, light caramel, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Alright IIPA, yet nothing too crazy, quite malty. Bottle shared at Leighton’s - thanks to Leighton!

Bottle shared in Hackney - picked up in the neighbourhood. Pours mostly clear gold with a foamy, white head. The nose has some faded pine, dried pale malts, crackers, citrus rind. Medium sweet flavour with prominent bready malts, hints of toasted sugars, caramel, ragged pine. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with toasted crackers, more old pine, dried citrus fruits. So so overall.

Bottle from Offie & Toffee. A glorious dark colour in the glass with minimal head. A deep hop nose and a very nice taste and mouthfeel. A definite fruity sweetness to the beer that the uncharitable could say is pushing it towards a barley wine. I don’t think it does and I found the sweetness to be perfectly balanced with the bitterness of the hops. The blurb said "stone fruits" and I could be pushed into saying that there was more than a hint of stewed plums to the flavour. The mouthfeel was fantastic and the flavours lingered and developed long after swallowing the beer. Overall a very, very good beer and it proves there is more to a double IPA than merely stuffing in as many hops as possible.

12 ounce bottle, 5/28/16. Hazy orange, thin off-white head, decent retention. Aroma of tropical fruits, earthiness, pale malt. The taste is lemon, tropical fruits, pepper, pale malt. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Nicely balanced.

11th October 2016
Hazy gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth and fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Slightly grainy malts, sweetish with a trace of malt cream. Floral mid, spice too. Modest tangy hop fruits, touch of something tropical. Light semi dry finish. Bitter linger. The DIPA single hop series from Airborne Pooch is a welcome idea for me, but the end results have been hit and miss. This one is decent but really doesn’t get enough Ella hop character to make it a good one.
