Draft at The Pour House in westmont, NJ.
Pours pitch black and opaque with a half finger beige head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Sporadic spots of lacing left behind.
Roasted malt aroma with a strong coffee presence that’s countered by sweeter malt notes. Hints of burnt toast, dark chocolate and deep roasted coffee. Pretty robust but doesn’t smell burnt or acrid.
Flavor is very similar to the aroma with a nice balance of robust coffee and sweeter malt notes. A lot of coffee beers tend to taste like three day old black coffee but this is nicely balanced with hints of dark chocolate, toffee and hazelnut countering the deeply roasted coffee, burnt toast and oatmeal flavors. Well balanced with a well masked abv making it easy to drink. dantheman278 (1365) - SCOTLAND - JUN 11, 2012
Bottle at home. Deep viscous black pour with a menacing, bubbly brown head that dies quickly. Nice woody coffee grounds nose, roast barley, hint of liquorice. Nice thick mouthfeel, pronounced ashy coffee grounds with a thick, rich vanilla milkshake note too. Lots of sticky cocoa, slightly rough booze but overall a pretty smooth, sweet finish. Nice. Mycket gott! Msavage235 (90) - - JUN 9, 2012
Powerful Russian Stout with an aroma of molasses and a dark brown, bubbly head. Initial taste is dark coffee with supporting flavors of caramel, chocolate and cream. Very enjoyable. leaparsons (10859) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JUN 9, 2012
Bottle. Black with a beige foam. Aromas are coffee with bounty chocolate bar and dark berries. Meaty smoke with soy and liquorice. Xmas pudding with fruity, red wine. Nutty alcohol with spices. Flavours are bitter dark chocolate with blackberries and vinous notes. Marzipan with rich coffee. Smoky with salt and lots of peppery notes. Fruity and malty on the finish. Damned good.

Sweet, sweet, sweet, with some big cocoa notes. The bitterness of the coffee is masked by all the sugars. Vaiz (4460) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - JUN 8, 2012
Bottle at home. Thick black pour, thin tan head. Aroma full of coffee, ashy, spicy and with licorice and caramel. Flavor is again more coffee, quite harsh, a bit sweet chocolate and mostly bitter ashy roasted malts. Decent body, nice balance. Not outstanding, but a really likable brew. japi (160) - Neubrandenburg, GERMANY - JUN 8, 2012
A very dark, black beer with a thin medium brown head that nice lacing. The aroma is very unique with a lot of espresso or coffee bean and also with alcohol, dark chocolate and pepper. The first taste is more sour and sweet than bitter. But the finish is rather bitter with notes of coffe, vanilla and dark chocolate. The texture is oily with a full body. tool2scream (188) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 5, 2012
This was a really nice coffee stout, with full, roasty malt flavors and a good, robust, quality coffee flavor which stays with you from start to finish, lingering for a good aftertaste. FatPhil (17334) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JUN 5, 2012
355ml bottle (Hilpea Haukki, Helsinki)
Black, large tan head. Nice bitter coffee aroma, fits in with the roast very well. Alas it’s beany in the taste, not as good as the aroma. Smooth palate, soft carbonation. Finish nicely roasty and wweet, but again the coffee comes over as beany again. Passable, but not wowing me.
