4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Bottle. Tasted this beer at the Flying Dog release party last night at Frederick Wine House. They put this beer out last year without a name, but this year they have named it Kujo and added some awesome artwork by Ralph Steadman. This stout is was brewed using a coffee from Black Dog Coffee from WV, this beer is local through and through.
The pour is silky black with a creamy deep tan head. The aroma is one full of roasted notes, dark chocolate, toffee and vanilla with undertones of fresh ground dark roasted coffee beans. First taste was full of roasted malts and dark chocolate which fades to an awesome flavor of dark roasted coffee that lasts.
Overall this is a great Coffee Stout and the best part is that it is totally local. Glad that they added this to their permanent seasonal lineup.
Converting ticks to ratings. Had this back in '12, from bottle. Had lots of coffee, some chocolate, berries, light ashy. Didn't really like this, although I think it's time for a re-rate. SvanteL (645) - SWEDEN - OCT 8, 2017

Bottle @ home. Cellared for 4 years. Pours almost black with almost no head. Aroma of cold fresh coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and port vine. Taste is roasted and smooth, with chocolate, coffee, vanilla, plums, some raisins and slight vinous notes. Medium carbonation. Lingering notes of coffee bitterness, vanilla and licorice. Has aged very well, has mellowed out and with the coffee still tasting great. djd07 (15661) - Houston, Texas, USA - DEC 29, 2016
Tap at GABF. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is roast coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla. Medium body, roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, nice booze finish, really enjoyed this. wlajwl (7124) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - DEC 1, 2016
Aroma is dark malts, fruit/dark fruit and mild coffee. The flavor is coffee, dark/roasted malts, mild chocolate and a slightly dry/earthy/acidic finish. Koelschtrinker (21827) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - OCT 24, 2016
Malziger, trocken kaffeeartiger Antrunk. Würzig, minimal herb, die Kaffeenoten steigen an. Süffig, etwas süßer werdend, was die Süffigkeit unterstützt. Langer Nachhall, Kaffee, Holz. 10/11/11/11/10/11 Antzrhere (181) - Blackpool, Lancashire, ENGLAND - OCT 15, 2016
Pours thin black with little head. Aroma of dark fruit and peat. Taste of caramel, soya sauce, smoke, coffee and port like flavours. Quite fizzy for the style, clean but abit thin. Easy. Abit weak for a bit an imperial stout but a good drink
