COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekend’s Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, “I understand it’s made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. They’re calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: “Two inflammatory words…one wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release it…stand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled – and in heat – is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy!” – Ralph Steadman

20.01.2018 sample at Bierboutique Kn – Thanks Martin for sharing a few sips with me. Reminds me a bit of their Snakedog IPA. But with a straight foreward Belgian yeast cloud and dry grassy/hay hops. Shy for a modern US but I like that. Some clove and heavily fridged banana juice overlayed by smooth yeasty mothfeel and something like a dry pistachio-ish nuttiness.

Bottle from local AH supermarket. Appearance is really nice. When pouring properly in tulip glass, a nice glasssticking offwhite foam will be yours. Colour is beatiful coppershining. Taste is strong, fruity citrus flavours (bitter grapefruit) well hidden alcohol but with many bitters instead. A bit too much imo but the advantage is that you won't drink too many bottles of these because the 8.3% is counting... A nice brew though.

Pours clear amber with high bronze white head. Aromas loaded of caramel, resin, tropical fruits and some floral notes. Taste has notes of tropical fruits, grass, pine, resin, caramel. Classic west coast style IPA but more on the DIPA side I would say. Can't really find any phenols or esters coming from belgo yeast but I'm not the one to complain.

Bottle from Damian. Pours clear orange with lacing white head, aroma of citruses, peaches, hops, bit malty. Great rich taste, hops, peaches, citruses, Belgian ale, little sweetness, dry bitterness, long fruity finish. Great piece.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2018 Bottle from Beer Hawk. Hazy auburn with a nice off white head. Smells yeasty and indeed it is. Strong, bitter taste with banana and citrus.

Thuis uit een flesje. Mooie heldere amberkleur, beige schuim, fijne belletjes. Puike hoppige smaak, goede bitterheid, maar niet te. Uitstekend.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2018 Don’t like the combination of flavors here. Too strong of an alcohol taste and only the bad flavors from Belgian ales with just extra hops thrown in

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2018 Bottle as gift. Pours a clear copper gold with brown edge. A lovely caramel coloured fluffy head. Nose has caramel and orange zest up first. There’s a balancing light herb with pepper. An alcohol warmth develops to a boozy fruit cake finish. The taste has caramel and citrus with a sugary sherbet edge. Then comes the boozy finish. The beer has a soft full body with a gentle semi dry carbonation. This a warm boozy IPA with a sweet toffee and fresh citrus balance.

Belle ipa Robe bien colorée, fruitée. Sympa à l’apéro, notamment avec du saucisson. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nez puissant vers le caramel, bonne longueur en bouche avec une amertume lointaine, le côté belge ressort tout de suite, très bon compromis de style ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
