Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekends Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, I understand its made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. Theyre calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast. Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: Two inflammatory wordsone wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release itstand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled and in heat is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy! Ralph Steadman

From bottle at the Coney. Light sweet malt aroma accentuated with floral-fruity hops. Neutral fruit with a bit of resin. Dark golden-amber clear with medium foamy lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts fairly sweet with caramal, candi sugar, and nice bitterness. Mild alcohol tasteand nutty, astringent bitter finish. NIce Belgian ale notes, too.

(12oz bottle) AROMA: yeasty, toast, biscuit, some malty sweetness, hint of cloves. APPEARANCE: Amber orange, clear, off-white slightly orange head, oily residue. TASTE: malt, barrel, some smoke, chocolate, burnt toast, pine/resin, bitter hops. PALATE: medium body, strong dry/bitter finish, overall good balance, crisp at first, creamy in the middle, smooth. OVERALL: very nice IPA, some uniqueness, almost some wheat bear characteristics, quite bitter, solid beer from front to finish.

Draft Half Pint at White Horse American Beer Festival 2010, Parsons Green, London in July 2010 - Orangey-Gold in colour. Very Hoppy; piney resinous hops. Yeasty; Belgian yeast. Fruity; citrus orange, grapefruit and tropical fruits. Very dry finish. Expected aggressive or harsh, but got smooth and well balanced. Fairly easy drinking. Liked this a lot. Lovely IPA! (2010-07)

Bottle - Definitely has that cross style taste. Floral but not over powering with a lingering bitterness on the palate. My palate is honestly confused by this beer. Not a fan of Belgian beer but was hopefully with the IPA mix.

Bottiglia 35cl. Color ambra con poca schiuma bianca. Aroma carico di malto e luppolo. Amara, nonostante faccia pi di 8 gradi, lalcool nascosto e per niente fastidioso. Finale lungo, molto interessante.

Amber in colour, decent sized head and lacing. Aroma is typical tropical mangoes, pine and grassy hops similar to most IPAs. Taste is of big juicy mangoes, finish is a malty caramel which makes it slightly unique. Gave me a bit of a sore head in the morning. Price Paid: 1.50 (out of date).
