COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flying Dog Brewery will celebrate its 20th Anniversary a few months early on Friday, September 25th (the brewery turns 20 next year). The brewery will be sampling the new Raging Bitch Belgian-style India Pale Ale at the Flying dog Brats And Gonzo party in Denver that day as part of the Great American Beer Fest happening that week (unscramble the FBAG acronym to get GABF). More info about the fest can be found on the official Flying Dog blog. The beer also appeared on draft at this past weekends Gonzofest party. Al from Hop Talk was in attendance and reported on his blog, I understand its made from an augmented Snake Dog wort with an exclusive Belgian yeast strain (called Diablo) and dry-hopped with a load of Amarillo hops. Theyre calling it a Belgian IPA. It was really good. It had that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast. Some may remember a beer called, Raging Bitch Birch Beer, that Flying Dog introduced on April 1st. Whereas that low-gravity series beer was a joke, this beer is anything but at 8% ABV (60 IBU). Propaganda from the label: Two inflammatory wordsone wild drink. Nectar imprisoned in a bottle. Let it out. It is cruel to keep a wild animal locked up. Uncap it. Release itstand back! Wallow in its golden glow in a glass beneath a white foaming head. Remember, enjoying a RAGING BITCH, unleashed, untamed, unbridled and in heat is pure GONZO!! It has taken 20 years to get from there to here. Enjoy! Ralph Steadman

Pours a pale copper with a large head that dissipates quickly. The aroma was the biggest letdown, although it had notes of both styles the IPA should have shown through here as aroma is more important to it. Additionally, there was a (for me)light but very unsavory barnyard odor that went beyond belgian or saison. Could have been a bad bottle, hard to say. Beyond that body was generally light and refreshing. The taste generally featured the matly, complex nature of a strong belgian ale, which was appreciated. Overall, an interesting combination of styles that could have been slightly better constructed.

355ml bottle. Clear bronze with small slightly off white head. Aroma is toffee, light belgo yeast, dried apricots, bitter orange and citrus. Taste is gently bitter with toffee, caramel, bitter orange, citrus and general dried fruit notes. Light to medium mouthfeel, light carbonation and bitter orange and toffee aftertaste.

Not so fruity, but with a lot of bitterness. One of the best Belgian style IPAs I had... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap. Clear amber with a nice head. Complex aroma of belgian yeast, zest, fruity and grassy hoppiness, and caramelly malty notes. A bit overdone on bitterness. Nice body, very drinkable for a whopping 8.3 abv. Excellent.

Tried on draft at a hotel bar in DC (so ambiance wasn't great). Clean, strong IPA. Not sure what's particularly Belgian about it, but it's not too hoppy or floral. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cool combo of Belgian and hoppy without ruining either. Pours medium dark orange, a bit cloudy. Nice foam head, thin but stays. Aroma is distinctively Belgian, with a pine bud afternose. First sip small bubbly smooth, Belgian feel with a hoppy tone that makes it easy drinking. Palate a little bitter, you want another sip. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours medium amber caramel with a thin white head residing. Scent is consistent caramel. Taste is whats written on the tin. Nice Belgian style caramel strong ale with loads of early hops, around 70 IBU. Finish is smooth and dense of caramel. Great.

330 ml bottle. Pours with a nice hazy orange color and a nice white head. WOnderful nose: Grapes, Grapefruit, some citrussy aroma, hops, nice hops, yeast, some pines, something sweet. Taste of fresh, pine hops, belgian yeast and caramel, some bananas, peach and apricot. Wow, very nice bitter and dry finish. Love it!

Bottle, many times. Along with Troubadour Magma, this must be one of my favourites Belgian IPAs. Superb orange colour, dank and citrusy, grapefruit. It retains the sweetness called for from a belgian, but balances the hops and sweetness perfectly. Very good.
