Bottled: Intensive herbal aroma, fruity notes of peach. Flavor is malty, light sweetness, herbal with notes of rosemary, earthy. Very dry, herbal bitter finish. Very interesting brew.

Flying Dog makes lots of beers, and most of them taste like the label art looks like. Harsh, dirty, tough. This IPA is no exception.

ABS (1071) - Stokke, NORWAY - MAY 11, 2011
Orange to amber pour, white, almost bubbly head. A bit to much on the bitter side, feels a bit flat. Ok, but there are a lot better IPAs out there.

nittanytide (287) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 5, 2011
Poured copper in color, with a frothy half-finger head. Floral aroma. Taste is a good blend of the citrusy and grassy elements in an IPA. Less of a malt backbone than I was expecting. A good IPA.

Kriegbaum (845) - Randers, DENMARK - MAY 3, 2011
12 oz bottle. Pour clear copper with a white head with good durability. Aroma of citrus hops and some grapefruit. Flavour is hops and sweet citrus, with hints of grapefruit. The finish is moderately bitter.

Bottle from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Poured copper in colour with whitish head. Aroma very grassy hops. Nice grassy hops in flavour. So much fruity in taste. Very fruity and grassy over all.

I haven’t had this beer in about 4.5 years; I got a few bottles as part of the Alpha Collection. I’ve had several bottles, and my perceptions of this beer are weirdly inconsistent. At first I thought I detected some defects - off notes, diacetyl, DMS, etc. Then I had it again and it had a weird graininess. But now, here I sit with a bottle and it is pretty good; a touch perfumey with a slightly odd floral after-taste. Strange. Appearance is quite good - sparkling and clear with good head. Aroma is a touch grainy but bitter. Flavor is not a kick-in-the-pants bitterness-wise, but is pretty good, although rather floral. Mouthfeel is average. I got this bottle in the Alpha pack, courtesy of my Dad, who brought it over from Frederick, MD.

CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAY 1, 2011
12oz bottle: Pours a clear deep orange bronze with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a lightly sweet toasty pale malty nose with some decent resiny piny hop notes. Starts with average fullness, fine carbonation and sweet pale malts with a good amount of citrusy bittering hops before a drier, slightly warming finish. Could be a little smoother with a cleaner malt profile, but still a decent IPA.

Lots of citrus aroma followed by slight malt notes playing in the background. Pours clear copper amber with a soapy head. Nice strong hops flavors of citrus, pine and mint. Slightly oily on the palate. Overall, its crisp, refreshing and very enjoyable. Good stuff!
