3.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a cloudy dark golden color. Smell is mild, some fruits. Taste is good, fruits, honey, malts, very flavorful. Overall a quality beer worth seeking out.
Tap (from old notes, not aged). Minimal white head; lightly hazy bright hay yellow. Fruity, citrusy, yeasty and lemony hops in the aroma. Nicely hoppy in the aroma, fruity, zippy bit of grain. Medium body. FlacoAlto (4176) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - AUG 2, 2012
The beer arrives from the tap with an amber, lightly hazed color. It is topped by a frothy, pale, barely tan colored head. This has a hoppy, herbaceous, citrus laden hop character as well as a fruitiness, and all are backed by an earthy, yeast spiciness and phenols that make this smell distinctly like a Saison should. The earthy spice aromatics lean towards herbal coriander. The hop character fades as the beer warms up, and the yeast character replaces it as well as also having some toasty, cracker like malt character and straw / hay notes that comes out more.Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 14, 2012
The beer is dry, fizzy, quite light bodied and this couples with and accentuates a biting, bitter hop character. This is quite carbonated, which is also accentuated by the light body. There is quite a bit of fruit character in the flavor; notes of pear, some melon, and a touch of apple character is quite noticeable. The carbonic acid combines with theyeast and hop note to form a sort of peppery finish, some ginger, and even a touch of spicy wood character somehow.
Just a solid, eminently drinkable, light Saison; I am always a sucker for these.
Bottled. Poured brilliant golden with a colossal, dense white head. The aroma picked up a hefty dose of citrus and other light fruits plus an equally big, sweet honey presence.. like a big, fruity mead.. light black pepper and banana highlights. The flavor found floral notes, light fruit, and banana over biscuity malts.. more honey and some sharper stuff on the finish (not sure where that came from).. interesting overall, but somehow too aggressive at 5%. Medium-bodied with thick carbonation on the palate.. OK flow.. decent, but too much going on. brokensail (16440) - Dublin, California, USA - APR 14, 2012
A light haze to this golden color with a fluffy white head. Some banana and pepper along with lots of yeast. Sweet, pale malt with a little bit of straw and grass. The banana is fairly pronounced and gives the beer a nice sweetness. Some bready malt and a hint of citrus peel. The straw and grass are there as well. Just a hint of pepper and maybe some yeast. Bottle pours a crystal clear golden color with almost no head to speak of. Just a small white rim around the top of the glass.
Aroma makes up some ground with some nice floral and fruity notes. Honey sweetness and bready.
Light in flavor. Floral notes and honey add sweetness. Reminds me of honeysuckle. Apples, citrus hops, bready, and hint of spice. All these flavors make it complex yet everything is so subtle that nothing is any dominant flavor.
It’s very soft on the palate. A mild spicy bitterness on the back end. Clean, crisp and dry finish. Overall this beer is exactly what it was made to be. Easily drinkable and simple. Good session beer that would be good on a hot summer day. Too bad it’s January. Kinz (3786) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - NOV 13, 2011
Richmond 16th. Now that I see that this is a Brewer’s Art collaboration, this is even more of a disappointment. Blond. Aroma of gentle honey malts. Flavor is very lightly of vague yeasty spiciness and slightly sweet malts. Just sort of dead in the glass, lacking personality. Too bad. tia (2160) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - NOV 5, 2011
Bottle. Yellow. Smells cidery and citrusy. Tastes wheaty and a hint of lemoniness. Butters (4059) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - NOV 5, 2011
Sampled at the the Sweet Sixteen Richmond Gathering. Clear golden pour with ring of white head. I guess it fits the description as I don’t know what a table belgian beer tastes like. Reminds be a bit of orval. Does have the floral honey character. Interesting, but I don’t really care for it. jcos (1851) - Maryland, USA - SEP 30, 2011
