3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
i had this one in my cellar for at least a year, i was curious to see how the barrel notes held up. i did get some booziness in the aroma but it wasn’t overpowering. the taste was perfectly balanced between the roast porter and the sweet/smooth from the barrel aging. the weird part of the beer was it felt over carbonated. it had a real prickliness that seemed in opposition to the sweet/smoothness of the flavors. just on odd juxtaposition to feel sort of harsh with such supple flavors on the tongue.
It pours dark brown with a brown head. It has woody overtones with roast, cocoa, slight coffee, and a hint of dark fruit. Ahuth (627) - Illinois, USA - AUG 6, 2017
Draft. Pours deep black and the aroma is whiskey and chocolate. The palate is creamy and full. The taste is chocolate malt and hints of vanilla and esspeso. Then a finish of whiskey. Awesome porter Erzengel (9089) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - JUL 23, 2017
Intense deep beginning. Wood, plums, cherries. Intense deep with the alcohol warming but not rough. Very deep, viscous, thick. Intense deep aromafull, dried fruit, wood, fascinating! willisread (3474) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 22, 2017
2012 version draft at Gambrinus. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of eggshell colored foam. Cinnamon, cardamom, cacao nib and milk chocolate nose. Creamy on the palate, milk chocolate. Wow, super smooth, vanilla some bourbon mid-palate. Light chilli, more spice and bourbon on the finish. Killer beer and still has good legs at 5 years old. klm1 (1738) - Bled/SF, - MAR 16, 2017
