3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750mL corked Champagne-style bottl.
After doing battle with the cork, I pour out at beer that is pretty much pitch black with a good tight tan head. The effort has paid off thus far!
Aroma is not hugely pungent, like alot of smoked beers, but theres a good measure of cured meat smokiness in there combining with notes of chocolate and roasted nutty malts.
Medium carbonation is nice and soft on the palate, rather smooth and very easy going, especially for the strength!
Lovely combination of flavours on the body; dark chocolate, sweet toffee and toasty malt, roasted nuts, bacon, char-grilled meat, liquorice, with just a hint of (oxidised?) dried fruits/apricot on the finish. Smoke lingers for a bit, but certainly not overdone.
Walked, or rather drank, into it with no preconcieved ideas based on style, just for a change, and came out very pleased overall. Ticks the rauchbier and schwarzbier boxes, and, for me, I think you could probably also merge in porter, or sweet stout in there too. Either way, really nice!
It is black and inviting with rich aroma of smoke. The taste varies over the smoked for a little caramel and fine hard roasted malt. In conclusion, it is a most smoked but also the Bocks slightly retracted hop bitterness. Exciting, tasty. angel77 (3494) - oviedo, SPAIN - JUN 27, 2015

Rated on 6-26-2011. This corked and caged bottle has a very, very small tan head that quickly dissipates, opaque dark brown body, suspended carbonation, and no lacing. The aroma is roasted malt and smoke. The taste mimics the aroma and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and this beer is medium bodied. I do not find this beer to be overly smokey in the aroma or flavor. It is worth trying, Beerhunter111 (21515) - P´Castle, GERMANY - MAR 15, 2014
Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes Bier mit bräunlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, rauchig, dunkle Schokolade, Kaffee. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, bittere Schokoladig, Torf, Kaffee. warhawk91 (302) - Newington, Connecticut, USA - DEC 31, 2013
750 ml. Pour is a dark brownish black, tan effervescent head that disappears completely. Aroma is chocolate, smoke, molasses and booze. Taste is rich with dark chocolate and caramel with a smokiness balanced by a slight booze kick. It's like a smoked porter but less viscous. The biggest negative is the carbonation. Really flattens out half way through.

750ml bottle, purchased from Party Source a little while back. Shared with friends. Very dark brown, near-black color. Little tan, sort of bubbly head. Leaves decent dots of lace. Medium to bigger body, light carbonation. Lightly sticky. No date on bottle, but it tastes pretty old to me. Kind of oxidized. Dark fruit, big smoke, some milk chocolate, light coffee, roast. Aroma is pretty interesting, but taste is a bit cloying sweet, and bitter. Overall, kind of interesting, but definitely tastes old (with that big sweetness), and it hasn’t aged well. Either that or it’s just over the top. Date your bottles, yo. Aniela (4216) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUN 22, 2013
Draught. Black beer with a brownish head. Smokey. leather, chocolate aroma. Leather. licorice, smokey. malty and chocolate flavour. jmgreenuk (9552) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - MAR 10, 2013
Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is of smoke and peat that almost defies you not to take a sip! The flavour is strongly bitter, but not overpowering, with a lots of liqourice and dark chocolate and plenty of spice on the palate. Smoked "double lager" ?? Really? This is a superb beer and I could drink this all night long if it were not for the 7.8% ABV, which is incidentally very well controlled and does not dominate the beer. Been a while since I had this but, what a good beer. Full smokey aroma, malty and roasty. Well balanced body, with a bitterness to finish. Great beer. sonnycheeba (6126) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - NOV 10, 2012
