COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winner of the silver medal at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival, this Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy.

Beer writer Michael Jackson has praised the Flying Fish Dubbel as “a wonderful example of the style.”

Malts: Two-Row Pale, Munich, Special B, Chocolate, Demerera Sugar
Hops: Styrian Golding
Yeast: Belgian Abbey Ale
Original Gravity: 16.8 Plato

Very good aroma and flavor. Has a sort of grainy Barleywine nose to it. Belgian candy taste and pretty strong alcohol scent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: orangey-amber, almost clear, with a one-finger off-white head poured into a chalice; minimal legs or lacing. Aroma: heavy with raisin, clove, and toasty brown bread. Taste: golden grahams cereal, with raisins, yeasty spice, some dark honey, some additional fruitiness and then a hint of roasted nuts. Finish: smooth, slightly fuzzy, with just enough tingling carbonation and yeasty spice to brush the palate clean. Notes: Outstanding. Loved this beer. Flavors were perfectly balanced, and the palate was likewise perfect.

i am not an expert on the heavier, stronger belgian beers as i try to avoid the ones that taste more like wine than beer...but even though this one packs an alcohol content wallop, the flavor was rich and deep. i really like it. possibly a new favorite and i may even become more adventurous when it comes to trying these heftier styles of belgian beer in the future.

Dark red color with small head. Lots of carbonation. Good malt flavors and hops to balance it , yet it still has the traditional spicyness of a good dubbel. Full body and flavor with a smooth aftertaste.
