Winner of the silver medal at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival, this Belgian-style Abbey Dubbel is an exceptionally complex beer with many interwoven flavors. This classic-style Abbey beer features an immense head with a fruity nose and a generous body. Malty in the middle, the beer features a clean, almondy dry finish and a slight alcohol warmth. More like a wine than a beer—it has a lot of the qualities of a fine Burgundy.

Beer writer Michael Jackson has praised the Flying Fish Dubbel as “a wonderful example of the style.”

Malts: Two-Row Pale, Munich, Special B, Chocolate, Demerera Sugar
Hops: Styrian Golding
Yeast: Belgian Abbey Ale

Pours a cola brown with a thin white head which is gone in a hurry.....aroma of raisins, sweet malt, honey.....taste is light on the Belgian funk, slight earth, raisin, a tad thin, then disappearing into a sllght bitter spice.

On tap at Philadelphia International. Ruby dark in the glass. Nose is malty sweet. Palate is all Belgian. Sweet malty goodness. Syrupy. Not cloying. Not as complex as I hoped, but decently balanced to style beer.

Dark ruby with white head. Nose of fruits, nuts and malt. Tastes of dark fruits, banana and some sweet malt. Low on bitterness, if any at all. Light body.

Pretty generic for the style, taste is about what you’d expect. Some banana and clove, honey malt, and I get a bit of bubblegum too. Not great, but certainly drinkable. And only $8.99 for a six pack; you won’t find too many Dubbels for that price.

Pours dark ruby with a light off white head, not quite tan, the aroma is candy, spicy, dark fruits like figs. The flavor is sweet with fig, candy, dark candy, spices, clove and some banana. Overall, nice balance alcohol is found in back end. Qould drink.again.

Very good aroma and flavor. Has a sort of grainy Barleywine nose to it. Belgian candy taste and pretty strong alcohol scent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared at a tasting at Alexei and Raphaela’s. Thanks Trapped. Headless clear brown. A little roasty, some burnt caramel aroma. Sweet burnt caramel taste. Fizzy, light-bodied, a little alcoholic finish. Feels amateurish.
