appearance: near black, full medium tan head. aroma: promising--chocolate, hint of licorice, molasses, a bit of coffee, whisper of pine. taste: gah, what happened? Dark chocolate is ok, but then I get musty basement, sour nuts (hush, you), dank pinecone, soggy toast. finish: palate is obscenely zippy for the style, with champagne like carbonation; there’s an evil, funky note in the back end; I waited for it to warm up and get a little softer, but it never happened. notes: Not sure what is going on here. I generally like FF beers, and BPs are in my top 10 in style, so this was a match made in heaven, especially when I saw it for $5.99 for a 750! I don’t think I got a bad bottle, because there were no clear notes of infection. The flavors weren’t OFF per se, more just muddled and didn’t seem to work with the style. I AM DISAPPOINT. Seems to be rated reasonably high, so perhaps the fault is mine and my mouth was just having a bad day. Bottle from Total Wine in McLean, VA.

Bottle. Happy Independence Day! I love a true Baltic Porter, this is fully true to style and a beauty of a beer. It pours with a dark black hue, an initial pock-marked head and good carbonation. The aroma and flavors are both rife with so much goodness ... rich, dark chocolate, just a hint of java, just a twist of licorice. Exceptional. Pours an opaque dark brown color with khaki colored head. Roast, chocolate, toast, vanilla, and some earth on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes with chocolate and roast. Nicely done. jtclockwork (17264) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 10, 2017
Bottle - pours dark brown. Nose and taste is mostly chocolate with some dark fruit and a little roast - medium body Sammy (12760) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 25, 2017
Very good drinking chocolate porter with good bitterness in the finish. Thick and looks thick. Lots of permanent white foam. Well done. From New Jersey beer store and bought 15 months back.

Fantastic Baltic porter! Pours very dark w/ a tan head & plenty of lacing. The aroma is robust w/ a great balance between sweet & bitter notes. The flavor is complex w/ an exquisite body that makes you keep coming back for more. It’s soft & sweet up front & then the roasted coffee flavors kick in leaving just a splash of bitterness. It’s easily drinkable at nearly 10% & overall is an absolute delight! UkrainPubCrawler (122) - Minnesota, USA - FEB 25, 2017
Extremely tasty porter. Multiple layers of flavor make this a delicious pour. Larry_Duffman (598) - - JAN 8, 2017
I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours black with a tan head. The aroma is chocolate and coffee. The taste is heavy on chocolate with hints of coffee and licorice. It hid the alcohol very well. I expected more complexity. It was really heavy on the chocolate. It was good though. closey22 (2101) - Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, USA - DEC 30, 2016
Cloudy dark brown with foamy beige head; aroma is roasty malty grainy; flava is tangy grain with sweet malty caramel nutty notes followed by roast and hints of alcohol; feels medium to thick and creamy with subtle fizzy zing ; finishes tangy grainy roasty and dry dwyerpg (6410) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - DEC 18, 2016
Nice coffee aroma. This is a heavily roasted thick beer but the flavor wasn’t the best of the evening. Each sip was coffee, roast and complex spices. Nice
