You are holding the inaugural release in a multi-year brewing experiment-to brew a series of beers as diverse as the great state of New Jersey. Our theme is the state-long artery that connects us. Each beer will focus on the unique aspect of an individual exit, whether an ingredient or event. The journey begins at Exit 4- right up the street from the Flying Fish brewery. As one of the first craft brewers to embrace Belgian-style beers, we’ve chosen to start with a Belgian trippel, finished with plenty of American hops. Note the hazy golden hue and the aroma of citrus with hints of banana and clove. Then taste the Belgian malt flavors and a subdued bitterness in the finish. Bottle conditioned, this beer will develop as it ages. Enjoy.

Malts: Malto Franco-Belge Pils Malt, Weyerman Acidulated, White Wheat, Demerara Sugar
Hops: Simcoe, Columbus, Palisades, Amarillo
Yeast: Belgian Abbey
Original Gravity: 21.5 Plato

A beer that tastes of clove and banana, your usual Belgian yeast flavors, a bit of spiciness. Could use a hint more carbonation if you ask me. Overall, a decent tripel. Not great, but certainly worth drinking again for the price. Best New Jersey beer I’ve had.

Pours a clear gold. Has a citrus, what and yeast aroma. A strong citrus, wheat, yeast, and sweet candy taste. A sweet and yeast aftertaste.

DATE TASTED: March 24, 2016... GLASSWARE: Affligem chalice.. OCCASION: ... APPEARANCE: pours a crackling golden orange with sparse effervescence... mostly clear... the head rings out to an almost cloudless... zero lacing in the glass... AROMA: a beautifully aromatic, spring flower dominates with grapefruit and orange... the banana, clove and spice suggests raw yeastiness... TASTE: a sweet, hoppy strength ripples through the profile, with astringent yeastiness, banana and clove... a sharp Saaz suggests a pilsner, while the the malt is a bit of cracker and bread... a balanced tripel, which is not the usual... OVERALL: a powerfully alcoholic, clean, crisp ale that rewards in its richness and displays the capabilities of Flying Fish... balance is the key to this abbey, with notes of honey and orange peel late...

Decent tripel with some clove and light bubble gum and banana on the nose. Big head. Spritzy feel. I like the light citrus notes in the flavor from the more than normal for the style hopping.

4oz draft. Lite yellow with bare white head. Yeast and grains, with banana and clove notes. Messy and offputting flavor for me. Not a fan.

Pours orange yellow with a creamy white head. Aroma of banana, Belgian yeast, clove, and bubblegum. Banana and bubblegum sweetness with clove and Belgian yeast. Very nice.

Bottle to shaker glass, pours hazy golden-orange. Quick white head with some lacing and light retention. Aroma of orange peel and banana. Taste is slightly sweet up front, sour in the middle with some bitterness. Medium bodied, lively carbonation, thick mouth feel. Finishes long and funky bitter. Tasting notes of clove, banana, Belgian yeast, grass, smoke, lemon and bubblegum. The label says American Trippel. Yep, no problem with that! A winner!

Excellent trippel with a nice infusion of hops that makes it unique. Nice aroma and mouth feel. Goes down easily so use care.

Very hoppy with a slight Belgium yeasty feel and taste. Completely clear, with hardly any haze. I can taste a touch of the banana but not the clove mentioned. It’s a spice but more hops than anything. Aroma is a lot of funk. Bottle.
