Heeding a chorus of voices crying for a dark roasty thing with lots of west coast hops and a higher ABV, we summoned Netherworld from the chaotic flipside of the brewhouse where hybrid is the norm and nothing is ordinary. Hovering just this side of evil, in the right hands, our Cascadian Dark Ale is bizarrely nice with its own entrancing mojo. However, watch out for those who refuse to see the darkness.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From Cervezasespeciales. In Teku glass. After dinner. My new favourite american black ale. Great balance between roastyness and hoppynes, with a very moreish dry finish

Bottle. Very dark brown, average and mostly lasting light brown head. Moderate, malty and dryish aroma, light caramel and roasted malt - faint burnt malt, faint fruitiness, some citrus/grapefruit hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and dryish flavor, light - some caramel and roasted malt, faint fruitiness, some citrus - light grapefruit hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and dryish, light caramel and some roasted malt - faint burnt malt, faint fruitiness with some citrus - light grapefruit hoppyness. BIPA with caramel and roastiness. Could use more bitterness (and less caramel).

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Lots of chocolate and roast, not so much IPA. Feels more like a stout than a BIPA. Medium roasted body to a light palate, almost refreshing. Hints of hops on the palate. Nice.

Bottle at home. Bought from Saviere Biere (or however you spell it, I did German!). Surprisingly sweet aroma - berries, fruit. Dark brown, ruby comes through when hit by light. Beige head - frothy but only a few mm. Very bitter, all through in to the dry finish. Berries, again, but goosberries and those of a similar sharpness. Light bodied, almost slick. Packs a punch but drinkable. Id echo an earlier rating - could do with some sweetness in there to add balance.

Very dark transparent ruby red bear with a nice big white head. Smell is grapefruit peel and pine with some resin. Hint of caramel and dark fruit. Taste is bitter and dry. Light touch of ash and resin. Astringent sticky finish. Pity theres no sweetness for balance.

33cl bottle. Very dark brown pour with a medium height tan head. Notes of roasted coffee, pine resin, citrus hops, chocolate, roasted malts. Medium body, medium to high carbonation and a roasty and hoppy bitter-sweet finish.

GoufCustom (1707) - HONG KONG - SEP 3, 2016

355 ml bottle bought at YATA in MOKO, Mong Kok.

Looks: Clear deep brown colour; One quarter finger head with soapy light beige foam which fades in 20 seconds; Very good sticky lacing with zero carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant dark malt, with strong roastyness, burnt toffee, caramel, roasted coffee beans, alcohol, dark chocolate, floral, light grapefruits, resin, molasses, bread, lemon and grass.

Taste: Very light sweet dark malt, with burnt toffee, burnt toast, caramel, grapefruits, dark chocolates, floral, light molasses, wood, resins, very light pine, light biscuits, lemon, mid to strong bitter hops and strong grass.

Body: Close to medium body. Quite slick and oozy palate.

Mouth Feel: Good dark maltyness in a slightly watery background. Strongly roasted with evident burnt toffee and burnt toast amplified by lack of sweetness. Moderate grapefruits and good floral, quite oozy and woody with strong lemon to round. Pretty good!

Hoppiness: Floral, light grapefruits, resin, lemon and grass in nose. Grapefruits, floral, wood, resins, very light pine, lemon and strong grass in taste; Bitterness - burnt malt and hops - is quite strong for a lasting, high astringent lemony oozy finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Toasty and strong bitter to mouth.

Comments: This one has a really enjoyable burnt toffee and roasty coffee bean aroma, yet the taste is somehow bare naked by thin palate, too light in sweetness and a tad light in hoppiness than most Black IPAs. A solid one but not sensational. Worth a try, though.
