Bottle. Jet black with small and quickly disappearing beige head, almost no lacing. Pleasant and quite strong and solid aromas of chocolate, licorice and some coffee. I enjoyed a Festival 1/3 pint of this in the Sir John Oldcastle, London on Sunday. Wetherspoons rate it as 5.0% rather than 5.5%. Their tasting notes say ’Gino Perissutti has travelled to Shepherd Neame Brewery, in Kent, to brew this mahogany beer especially for this Wetherspoons real-ale festival. Brewed in the style of a traditional English porter, this has notes of coffee, chocolate and licorice in the flavour, leading to a refreshing, slightly herbal finish. Spillata a pompa, color ebano molto scuro, con schiuma esile e di poca persistenza. Al naso ottime note di cioccolato fondente, caffè e un pizzico di liquirizia, su una buona base di pane nero. Corpo nella media e carbonazione bassa, con bollicine molto fini, buona anche la morbidezza. In bocca ancora tanto caffè e cacao amaro, con una chiusura leggermente amara e secca. Sampled from bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. Opaque dark brown to black color, small light brown head. Smell and taste malts, some nuts, brown malts, slightly sweet, dry finish, a hint of bitter and a hint of hops in the distance. Suitable body and carbonation.
