Had this one at the brewpub last night during "trivia night." Came out a tawny copper-brown, with a thin beige head capping it off. The nose is sweet with vanilla, bourbon, oak, toffee. The mouth is mellow with light carbonation; velvet finish. The barrel-character comes through quite a bit on this one, as it masks the hoppy base that this beer has. Yet, this beer isn’t overpowering in its bourbon-character. Vanilla, oak, booze, caramel. Mild bitterness noted, but the hops are near absent. This is a dessert beer if I’ve ever had one. I was a little hesitant with this style being "barreled," but I would get this again. A treat.

Mahogany pour on draught at 2012 Winter Warmer, with a nice tan head leaving soapy lace. Big chocolate malty nose. Chocolate in the mouth, silky and dark, with whiskey and tobacco to finish. A touch of ABV to activate the full body makes this absolutely delicious! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

10oz pour at Busy Bee Cafe in Raleigh. Translucent nut brown with some creamy off white head. Wooooo. Big nose. Smells like Jim Beam, toffee, vanilla, sour mash whiskey. Flavor is the same. Tastes like they dropped a shot of whiskey in my brown ale. Must have been an extremely wet barrel. Flavors of caramel, coconut, vanilla, brown sugar, cherry, slightly medicinal. full bodied, boozy finish.

TURDFERGUSON (4068) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 22, 2012
Draft at Tylers in Raleigh. Layered brown with with a small White head. Nose is retains a lot of the base beer qualities, some light, vanilla, oak, citrus, pine, light bourbon/booze. Flavor is more Medicinal and boozy, not super hot but just tastes more like Booze than roast or hops. Like the base beer better.

Tap at the brew pub. Pours beatuful deep mahogany with some amber tones, small beige creamy head leaving lsome lace. Aroma is toasted malty, sweet vanilla and bourbon with good barrel character, some fruits there too. Flavor is velvety lean, not too heavy, very drinkable with lots of flavors of vanilla, bourbon, oaky, some dill, nice maltyness, medium bitter and sweetness that mates well with the other flavors. Finishes bitter and bourbon.

Strong alcohol aroma and balanced and dry mouthfeel with an amber red appearance and easy drinking finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

oobawa (1733) - Tennessee, USA - MAR 4, 2012
Bitter, brown, and boozy as all get out, this beer is all over the place, yet remains steady enough to make for a tasty pint. The pour is slack and uninspiring, but a head eventually blurbles up, reaching a nice tan color. Smells malty and brown yet drenched in whisky. Tastes the same, with a lingering hop finish that is coupled with a boozed-out heat. The Pappy is on full display in this brew, almost too much so, overwhelming the beer in the middle before the hops straighten things out. Needs taming to calm the burn, but age might destroy the authoritarian hoppy streak.

Butters (4176) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 22, 2012
Not positive where I sampled this, but I’m pretty certain it was at the Floyd Fandango 2011. Near clear brown amber pour with good tan head. Smells fantastic! Like faint oak, vanilla, and faded hops. In the flavor, the hops become spicier, but with a perfect balance of wood. Not overly oaky, but definitely supports the base flavors. A little dying on the palate from the oak. A truly great beer.
