On tap last week at Brewery. Copper color, no head but some lacing, very balanced and rinkable but just a bit thin. Drake (14059) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 12, 2013
Growler from Beer Run. Pours a clear dark red-amber color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Caramel and toasted malt aroma with floral and spicy hops. The taste is nutty notes, toffee malts and a bitter piney hop finish. Medium bodied, well balanced, lingering bitterness. Nice beer. Kinz (3786) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Beer 52 Asheville trip. Glad to see this, hoppy brown ales are pretty awesome. And this was a solid one. Brown. Aroma of pine, nutty malts. Flavor was nutty malts, a touch of toffee, and then pine hop finish. Balanced. Liked this one, maybe I should brew one of these myself one day. Draft at the source. Clear amber color, white head. Aroma of nutty caramel. Taste is hazelnuts on toast. beerme31 (692) - Holly Springs, North Carolina, USA - DEC 1, 2012
Draft. Aroma was mild, citrus, chocolate. Brown in color, thin head. Medium sweet flavor with hints of fruit. Medium body, sticky texture, odd flavor combinations. Didn’t all come together too well for me. Overall ok.

Draught. Pours a fairly dark brown with a moderate head. Nose was rather malty - much more so than I expected. Taste was actually a tad hoppy. Odd drink. byrumj (16) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 10, 2012
With my Goat Cheese burger at Coleman Public House in Mt Pleasant. This is a terrific brown. Toffee is the star of the show for me. Little chocolate notes but the beer finishes like a champ. Dry dry dry finish.

Originally reviewed: 1/27/09. Had this on tap at the pub itself. Came out a dark brownish red, with about a quarter inch head on it. This disappeared to nothing but an outer ring. Though there was some decent lacing along glass edge. Smelled sweet and caramel-esque. Faint hops in there as well.
This is a nice crisp, bold, hoppy Brown Ale! Wow! I’m glad I tried this one. It’s hoppy and slightly bitter, but not too much that I’d mistake it for an IPA. Just enough to keep me sipping. Definitely some malty sweetness in there as well, as this is very well-balanced. Some butterscotch flavors pull through just a bit. Man, this is good. Too bad it’s only around for a little while. Draft at mellow mushroom Asheville. Pours brown with an inch of khaki head. Big pine notes on the nose. Didn’t get much toffee or chocolate on the nose. Hop flavor on the tongue with only a slight hint of it’s brown ale beginnings. Finishes clean. LilBeerDoctor (4128) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2011
On tap at Brixx Charlotte Uptown. Pours a mahogany brown with a thick light tan head. Aroma of citrus, hop oils, roasted malt. Flavor of a typical black IPA with more emphasis on the hops vs. roast. Lots of citrusy tang. Good india brown/black IPA!
