Originally reviewed: 4/15/09. Came out a deep amber color with no head at all. Some spotty lacing stuck as I sipped, but otherwise, pretty unremarkable. Smelled of slight hoppiness, earth, and caramel. Mouthfeel was crisp like all their other brews. Flavor was decent. Some subtle hop bite that finished dull and earthy as well. Aftertaste was slightly sweet from the malts I assume. Not a bad beer, but pretty average. chriso (7536) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2011
On tap at Foothills brewpub, Winston-Salem NC in July 2006. Clear copper colour. Lasting off-white head. Decent balance of earthy malt and tangy hops. A solid, and quite authentic, rendition of a UK style bitter, but not one of the more exciting Foothills brews on offer, especially to a visiting Brit. More like a best bitter than an ESB.

On tap at Mellow Mushroom. This was a nice esb and a good first offering from Foothills. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 14, 2010
Backlog rating. Had many pints of this at the Federal in Durham, NC. Translucent amber pour, with medium carbonation and lacing. Toasted malts in the nose, with a slight fruity fragrance too. Carbonation could be a bit bolder and the body a bit thicker. You can definitely get a sense of the English hops in the brew, but my abiding impression has been that the beer could be slightly more bitter and the body more robust. brewski519 (644) - Morrisville, North Carolina, USA - MAY 15, 2009
On tap this ESB poured a copper color with a thin head and minimal lacing. nose of earthy hops, malt and bicuit. Taste was very bitter with a decent malt and quality. Slightly fruity follow up. Decent brew.

On tap at the brewpub. Light red with a thin head. Aroma is fruity esters, good English malt and yeast character with an herbal tea and slightly flowery hop presence. light caramel and toasted malts, moderate sweetness and a nice fruity ester profile- slight tea-like hops, and a clean finish. Got a bit boring though as it warmed and thinned out a bit. Meh.
(Rating #2300) Drake (14447) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 4, 2009
Served on tap at the brewery. Pours a clear copper color with a thin head. Malty aroma with heavy earthy hop notes and some caramel and nuts. Taste is bitter hops with nuts and caramel. Very dry and bitter. Medium bodied. StFun (567) - Indiana, USA - FEB 18, 2009
On draft. Pours an amber color with a thick white head. Fairly thin. Some hops in the aroma, and a little earthiness as well. Flavor is sort of flat, touches of malt and barley and hops. Not my favorite from this brewery. tjthresh (1873) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - FEB 8, 2009
Draft at the brewpub. Pours copper bordering on red with white head. Earthy hop nose with some bakery aromas. Mild malt and bitterness. A bit of berries in the finish.
