An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with a light touch of caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and a crisp hoppiness, the hops also lends it a light note of grapefruit. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 23, 2006

clear dark amber, whispy head, nice bitter hop flavor with a long bitter finish, good dry carmel malt, the definitive esb
Aroma: 6/10; Appearance: 5/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 6/10; Overall: 12/20
My Bottom Line:PorterPounder (8186) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUL 5, 2007
Wooden hoppiness is carefully inserted into the toasted bread maltiness in this balanced and well-fed ESB.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the clear copper, drawing decent lacing.
-Light caramel maltiness is found, but it barely creates more complexity.
-The finishing wooden, leafy hop bitterness is polite.
-This is very clean and well crafted, but in the end it remains somewhat forgettable.
-If this is one of their lowest rated beers, I can’t wait to try all of the other ones!
On tap at The Flying Saucer in Charlotte.
Columbia, SC - Flying Saucer, on tap. Overall, a decent ESB. Medium orange appearance, soft white head, Good subtle bitterness with some chocolate undetones. Citusy back end. Clean, even mouthfeel.
(Rating #2300) chriso (7586) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2011
On tap at Foothills brewpub, Winston-Salem NC in July 2006. Clear copper colour. Lasting off-white head. Decent balance of earthy malt and tangy hops. A solid, and quite authentic, rendition of a UK style bitter, but not one of the more exciting Foothills brews on offer, especially to a visiting Brit. More like a best bitter than an ESB.

Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of toasty nutty pale malt and some English hops. Starts semi-sweet and toasty with a bigger bittering hop presence taking over near the finish. Has some mild earthy grapefruity character as well. Pretty true to style and drinkable.
