GABF 2008 poured a translucent dark brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of esspresso, bitter chocolate and light vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smootrh. Poured a black color with a large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2010 (4/5/10, draft) Creamy brown head that leaves nice lacing, atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, some burnt, roast, light cherry. Taste is sweet, roast, chocolate, burnt, some ash, light alcohol. Sticky full body, low carbonation. (9/5/7/3/15)

(3/15/07, growler, thanks kmweaver) Brown head atop black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, coffee, roast, chocolate, some soy, light cinnamon, cherry. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, some coffee, roast, earthy, light molasses. Creamy medium-full body. Alcohol is nearly invisible at cellar temperatures, with just a slight burn in the finish. A deep dark stout with a super thick dark brown head. A nice herbaceous chocolate aroma, with light Brett funk, herbal hops notes. In mouth, a decadent sweet chocolate with liqueur qualities, real well balanced, light lingering coffee notes. Rich and balanced. On tap at Great North Carolina Brewers Fest., August 28 2010. UPDATED: NOV 25, 2010 Draft. Dark brown pour with a good sized head. Strong roasted malt aroma with coffee and bitter and leafy hop notes. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, hops, powdered cocoa, figs, raisin, nuts and citrus. Very hoppy and full bodied.

Bottle @ DTS. Black and opague. Aroma and flavor have coffee and loads of dark chocolate. Just a hint of salt and licorice. The alcohol is well hidden. Syrupy, creamy mouthfeel, earthy hoppy finish. Sample at Bad Parenting Club (plus a few dirty aunt/uncles?!): NC Beer Edition on 03/28/2015. Pours a dark brown color with a medium thick foamy khaki head that diminishes gradually. Sticky patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Full-bodied with flavors of roast malt, cocoa, coffee and mild hops. The finish is rich and slightly boozy with a mocha aftertaste. Good beer all around that I am shocked it has taken me this long to try.
