Pitch black with a small lightbrown head and no lazework. Aroma is cocoa powder, light hops, roasted acidic malt, some light brighter chocolate and plenty of dark chocolate. Flavour is first "right on cocoa" with light dark bitter chocolate, some acidic hard roasted malt and caramell. The beer finishes dry and roasted but quite weak, way too weak for a imperial stout in my opinion. Mouthfeel is a bit too thin for a IS aswell and the beer really suffers from this even though the initial flavour and even more the aroma is really nice. elihapa (1554) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - OCT 4, 2009
GABF Saturday. Another gem of a beer that I literally stumbled upon walking the stands of GABF on the last day. Appearance is dark dark brown but not black, cloudy but not opaque. Nose is deep milk chocolate with toasted malt, blackened wood and a certain breadiness. Mouthfeel is medium, a bit lean for an Imperial Stout. Flavors are indeed very well balanced, emphasizing chocolate. They are not all too powerful, but what is there is a tasty array of dark and milk chocolate. Overall, though this beer was very good, but perhaps not quite world-class. I’d drink this again though. madmitch76 (25554) - , Essex, ENGLAND - NOV 15, 2009
19th July 2008. Smooth slightly creamy and remarkably light Impy Stout. Smooth non bitter coffee, a little chocolate and an undertone of subtle red fruit. Thoroughly enjoyable! MrChopin (4305) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - APR 22, 2010
Tasting thanks to cpetrone84 (BA)! Thanks Chris.Elwood (3347) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 26, 2010
Dark brown with a creamy tan head. Nose of graham cracker, faint alcohol, and a large cocoa element, very bitter and woody. Flavor continues the cocoa dominance, some roast elements, and a faint, green hop that tingles in the corner of my mouth. Sticky body is long in cocoa bitterness. Better and more unique than I thought it would be. Not world beating, but definitely worth the effort.
It pours an opaque black with a huge, brown head. The nose is loaded with coffee, chocolate, and molasses. The taste is decadent with rich coffee and chocolate notes, a bit of earthiness, sweet dark fruits, and a hint of molasses. Rich body leads to a lasting coffee finish. Overall an excellent beer that is certainly worth seeking out and trying, but it is just shy of being as good as the top examples of the style. Still, I am very glad I tried it and would happily have it again.

From trade with KButler1. The aroma is much more coffee/espresso upfront. Some chocolate, dark ripe fruits, brown sugar. The appearance is brown/black, small tan head. The flavor is more chocolate, roasted coffee, again some fruit flavors. The finish was roasty/bitter, piney hops. Medium thick in body, creamy mouthfeel. Very nice. Thanks, Kevin. jtclockwork (17264) - , New Jersey, USA - JUL 23, 2010
UPDATED: APR 23, 2015 Bottle with many thanks to decaturstevo. Wow! This one rivals for the best beer I’ve had. Definitely in the top 3! Pours thick black with tan head. Good lacing. Nose is cocoa nibs, chocolate, bourbon, espresso, coffee, toffee and lots of other goodness. Taste is similar flavors. The cocoa nibs really shine. A tad sticky, but that doesn’t distract from this overall masterpiece. 4.9

Bottle. Pours black with a big creamy biege head. Aroma is rich chocolate mousse, coffee, tobacco. Flavor follows up with tobacco, chocolate. Oily on the palate, slightly salty. Very good overall. drfabulous (8572) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - APR 12, 2011
22 ounce thanks to TURDFERGUSON. Finally got this whale. Black with thin head. Surprisingly smokey. Didn’t realize that. Nice stout aroma with strong chocolate taste. Great. Body not as heavy as I like. msante79 (2244) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - APR 16, 2011
On tap at Duckworths. Pours near black with small tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, and a bit of molasses. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, a little toffee. Mouthfeel was a little thinner than I expected. Really balanced and wellrdone imperial stout. Not as complex as I was hoping for, but a pleasant surprise to see on tap.
