3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a very dark brown color. Smell is of malts, some sweetness. Taste is malts, bready, a touch of caramel, alcohol is present. Overall a potent and decent brew.
I really enjoyed this one. Lots of roast and good tempered caramel. A lot better than I was expecting to be sure. Bittersweet finish. Black pour with some mocha head. Tap at Annapolis brewpub. oh6gdx (26487) - Vasa, FINLAND - APR 23, 2015
Bottled (backlog). Dark amber colour with a mediumsized off-white fluffy head, which turns into a small and creamy one. Aroma is caramel malts, some slight raisins, ripe fruits and mild floraland herbal notes. Flavour is sweet malts, some toffee, abit toasted notes along with some floral, ripe fruity and mildly raisiny notes. Balanced, and it does hide the abv rather well. Tap - @ RHP. Pours dark caramel-red, no real head. Looks like Coke. Light aromas of cola, nuts, toasted malt and dark fruit, plums and figs. Taste is but of caramel and vanilla, hints of plum, chocolate malt. Lively palate, decent finish. Pretty good balance. Not bad, which is better than not good. Serving: Draft at Rams Head Tavern. It pours a dark cola color with a small tan head. The nose has light caramel notes. The flavor is a little sweet and seems to lack body for the style. Very simple interpretation with straight forward caramel, a little dark malt, and a lingering bitter finish that gets old rather quickly. The flavor profile doesn’t hold up to German examples of the style at all. Slightly south of "meh". ads135 (4701) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUN 13, 2012
Sweet, brown sugar flavor. Caramel nose. Medium bodied. Dark amber brown appearance and cloudy. Tried with the parents in London in 2012. keepersj12 (3133) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - MAY 31, 2012
Of the few beers I have sampled from this brewer, this is my favorite. Pours very dark brown with a lacing off white head. The aroma is full of caramel and molasses. The flavor is very similar, sweet and rich with a full body. The finish is long lasting. Save this one for the cold months though.
