Bottle. Copper to light brown color, clear. Almost no head, just wisps of white foam. Aroma is a very pleasant malt with hint of smokiness & peat. Full body, soft carbonation, smooth. Warming beer... good all around. DavoleBomb (1867) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 12, 2011
Poured into a snifter.
4.0 A: Rich amber hues for color. Two fingers of thick, frothy head with average retention and plenty of lacing.
3.5 S: Very malty. Caramel, toffee, and a touch of spice.
3.0 T: Caramel comes through again, but also some unpleasantries. It’s really boozy and has a medicinal like quality to it. A little bit of herbal hop flavor.
3.0 M: Good carbonation but a little underbodied. Very smooth however.
3.5 D: Not bad, but nothing I’d want again.

bottle in Baltimore, Copper color and clear, nice head and plenty of malt and burnt sugar in the palate. Finish is actually quite clean with just a slight bitter iron hint arone12 (935) - Maryland, USA - DEC 15, 2010
Pours a deep reddish brown color with a small light brown head. Smells of caramel and brown sugar. Taste is of brown sugar and some cherries? Bit of alcohol present in the taste. Interesting beer. Travlr (26431) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - SEP 2, 2010
Cask at RFD. Muddy brown, no head, no lacing. Aroma of butterscotch. Taste is oily, thin, tangy and peppery.

12 oz – The Wine Source. Deep copper red, thin off white creamy head. Sweet caramel cherry notes warm to lighter swirls of bready toffee and smoke. Warm toffee and golden raisin-like flavors are well balanced on undercurrents of smoked cherry and vanilla booze. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, soft sweet malty finish. Shockingly well done… ROGUE (2216) - Lewes, Delaware, USA - FEB 15, 2010
12oz bottle. Pours a rich dark copper with a tan head. Smell is smokey and sweet, with strong caramel notes. Has a sweet, caramel malt taste upfront with a light smokiness, that is rounded out with a slight bitterness and herbal hop finish. Good carbonation but a little underbodied. ben4321 (6840) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - MAR 5, 2009

Aroma: Earthy yeast, some spice,
Appearance: Amber, thin off-white head
Flavor: Slight bitterness, nice blend of the scotch flavor and 8 % abv
Palate: Light bodied, somewhat fizzy, diminishes quickly
It’s got an interesting nose, some decent flavors, but nothing that will blow you out of the water.
Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel malt with some musty earthy notes, perhaps peat moss, but not smoked. Starts with average fullness and light caramel maltiness along with light fruitiness and some warming alcohol toward the finish. Could use more of a smoky peaty character and more body to hide the alcohol. jeremytoni (3085) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - FEB 18, 2009
From a bottle poured a dark amber color with a small head. Flavor of sweet malt with a lingering finish.
