Cask at RFD. Muddy brown, no head, no lacing. Aroma of butterscotch. Taste is oily, thin, tangy and peppery.

(12oz bottle) Medium off-white head that mostly dissipates. Aroma is moderately sweet, cherry, caramel, light smoke. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some smoke, cherry/raisin, light metallic, alcohol. Medium body, some stickiness.

Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 5, 2013
12 ounce bottle from Wegman’s Lake Manassas. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of tart fruits, caramel, banana, earthy notes. The taste is similar, tart stone fruits, caramel malts. earthy hops. Medium bodied.

Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel malt with some musty earthy notes, perhaps peat moss, but not smoked. Starts with average fullness and light caramel maltiness along with light fruitiness and some warming alcohol toward the finish. Could use more of a smoky peaty character and more body to hide the alcohol.

Braudog (6834) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - NOV 12, 2007
Draft pint at the Annapolis brewpub. Reddish amber with a rapidly surrendering head. Not much of any aroma that I can sense. Light caramel malt with a brown sugar kick, but lacking any real oomph. Not unlike a "dark" macro liek Shiner Bock -- lifeless and made for the masses. (#3195, 11/10/2007)

Location: 12 Oz. Bottle from Gilly’s 3/5/09

Aroma: Earthy yeast, some spice,
Appearance: Amber, thin off-white head
Flavor: Slight bitterness, nice blend of the scotch flavor and 8 % abv
Palate: Light bodied, somewhat fizzy, diminishes quickly
Overall Impression: It’s got an interesting nose, some decent flavors, but nothing that will blow you out of the water.

nuplastikk (6452) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 15, 2008
12oz bottle. Amber-orange color. Minimal creamy head. Amber malt aroma jumps out at you, a little pungent, perhaps due to age. The taste is malty sweet, with a smooth and faint spice flavor coming through as well. This might well be the yeast, which also imparts a mellow fruity twang to match the alcohol content, which remains a mystery with this one. Probably much better brewery fresh.

ganache (6050) - New Jersey, USA - JAN 28, 2009
Bottle. Surprisingly yeasty nose with lemon and grainy pale malt makes me think I’ll be drinking a wit before the caramel and peat arrive. Tan soapy head on a amber-mahogany body rich in suspended sediment. Taste is strongly bitter, slightly sour, and [initially] very dry with aggressive peat and grapey malt. Caramel and husky grain, a little raisin which builds over time to a mild cloy. Flavor intensity here is a sledgehammer, with the pressing weight of alcohol providing the plus-size dress but little else to indicate its raw booziness. Too bad they skimped on nuance, could have had something here.

This is an ok, pretty alcoholic scotch ale. Malty with a decent balance and mild hops. Tried at the Drink the District President’s Day event in DC in 2014.

michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 30, 2008
12oz. Bottle: Aroma is lightly sweet with notes of malts, brown sugar, and maple syrup. Poured copper/amber/light brown in color with a tiny tan head that disappeared immediately. Clear. Not sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of malts, caramel, toffee, slight smoke, slight tar, and slight nuts. Light to medium body. Sticky, chalky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Lightly sweet, malty, nuty, finish.
