Bottle #870 of 900, big thanks to Leighton. It pours jet black with a small tan. The aroma is soft, rich roasted malts, toffee, fudge, vanilla, candy, tangy berry and red wine. The taste is smooth, tangy, vinous, red wine, sour berry, sherbet, Granny Smith apple, candy, cocoa and a touch of umami with a slick finish. Medium + body and moderate carbonation. Bottleshare at Lancaster Gate. Thanks to Leighton. Almost opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is light, dry and fairly crisp. Tangy dark malts, nice red wine tang and red berries. Trace of something brett like. Semi dry finish. Not very saison but who cares? Nice beer.
38cl bottle shared at Leighton’s May tasting. Many thanks to Leighton for this one. It pours a dark brown color with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet fruity and tangy sour at the same time, with notes of lemon peel, seaweed, ashes, tang, vanilla, apricot and vinegar. Taste is also well balanced between the sweet and tangy sour notes with plenty of lemon peel and roasted wood, vanilla, roasted malts, lactose, apricots, stone fruit, bourbon. Bottle share at Leighton’s as ’Forest & Main Manu Negra - Barrel Aged’,, 8%. Black, opaque, small foamy brown head. Aroma is rich balsamic vinegar, red wine. Body is smooth, soft carbonation. Taste is red wine, dark cherry, rounded red wine, lightly acidic. The red wine is really taking over here. It’s tasty but it doesn’t have much beer character left. Bottle shared at Leighton’s place 09/05/2016. Huge that ks to Leighton for this one. Dark brown black coloured pour with a small dark tan head. Aroma is black liquorice, grapey funk, peanut butter, jammy fruits. Flavour is composed tangy sour, green apple, roast, black malts, liquorice, musty sour. Some funky grape must. Interesting beer. Palate is semi sweet and tangy, moderate carbonation. Green apple. Interesting.

Bottle shared in London - picked up via trade. Pours deep black-brown with a creamy, tan head. The nose has plum, burnt toast, earth, ripe berries. Light sweet flavor with a little rubber, molasses, burnt grains, grape, plum, cocoa. Medium bodied, lightly oily, with fine carbonation. Nose is earthy fruit, red berry skins, earthy, tangy dark fruit rinds, damp hay.
Taste comprises tarte fruit, light red wine, wooded notes, tangy dark fruit esters, red wine shine.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, tarte drying close.

Bottle (375 ml). Bottled January 21st 2014 so almost 2 yeard old now. 835/900. Split 3-ways. Dark reddish-brown with a medium beige head, low retention, and not much lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, red wine, ashes, berries, mud, mushrooms and leathery notes. Taste is ashes forward and borderline cigarettes at times which is annoying but there’s also a well dosed acidity, vinous notes, berries, dark chocolate, roasted malts and leathery notes. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Vinous mouthfeel. Ashey finish. It could use more carbonation. Outside of the ashes / ashtray flavors it’s actually a quite decent dark Saison but either it was flawed from the start or time got the her before us. Bottle shared. Opaque black pour with thin brown foam. Aroma is super winey, leathery, port notes, dirty earthy oak, tons of soy, very umami. Taste is salty, very leathery, umami, almost scotch like, light roast, tons of wine. Palate is full bodied, slick with light carbonation. Meh.
